Excellent comedy
| Sandra Ng is fantastic in her role as a 'woman of the night' the cameo appearance of Andy Lau also deserves a mention as does the performance given by eric tsang. This film stirs up a mixture of emotions as it tells a tale of hong kong through its highs and lows from the 1980s through to present day, through the eyes of a working girl. My award for comedy of the year. Simply Brilliant! |

learn from it

every film give you an unique idea. This is what you can learn and do research on it. In the view of intelligence, ordinary people's boring film give them much more room to learn |

OK
| this movie wasn't as good as i hoped...a lot of people said it's really funny, but i only found it kind of funny. yes sandra acts well and she is funny, but really the whole prostitute thing didn't make me laugh. the history of hk was more interesting in this movie than anything else. check it out if you like sandra ng and want a history lesson, but prepare yourself for some explicit storyline. |

Couldn't be any better!
| This is an excellent movie. I saw it twice in the cinema, but I still want to buy a DVD. It's not only a comedy, it means a lot for HK people. We have to keep hanging on, one day we will step out of the clouds. Hang On!!! Don't give up! Thanks, Peter Chan and Sandra Ng! |

An American film addict's POV
|
From my Point Of View, i think "Chicken" with all its story elements is an excellent movie. Although i did not recognize the movie music & the part it played in setting the time periods, I did recognize the various socio-political time periods that Kum went through by the clothing/hairstyles and the years that flashed on the screen. More than just a mere 'hooker's story, the movie echoed the pathos of a woman making a living on the mean streets of HK. She give up her son, changes the direction of her 'career' & still retains her sense of humor and ability to trust & love. No small feat in the world today. Congratulations to the producers, actors and all involved in the making of "Golden Chicken". The story was moving, the sex fun & not too gratuitious or raunchy & characters believable & compassionate. Distribute this instead of the sorry waste of time & money spent on the useless American film "Gigli". |

Enjoyable
|
One day when I sit down on a gloomy day and I know that I need something light to watch and entertain myself. I quickly pick up Golden Chicken, with a bowl of chips in front of me. Sanda Ng has nevertheless cheered me up and cracked in the early part of the movie. This movie takes you back 20 years and gradually reveals the life of a hooker and how they survive from the different era, the economy through period of times. They brilliantly use a hooker to wrap up the Hong Kong economy, the lifestyle of people who are so superficial that you never pay more attention and wish to learn more about them. Golden Chicken was able to link the whole story together and let me follow logically unlike some Hong Kong films that make you laugh and left with a many question and unfulfil. They have invited many big stars in this show probably as part of marketing technique. However, it did not disappoint me with some of their acting. Sandra Ng is more or less the main emphasis of the whole film eventhough there are big stars like Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Eric Tsang etc to accompany her. Sandra is a brilliant comedian and in this film you can see very similar style of her acting. I honestly enjoy the way she acts and it seems rather natural from her. Costumes are something worth to mention. In Golden Chicken, I can see many over top sequins, fur, platforms and wedge shoes; wigs, accesories. I think the costumes selections and the make up are pretty well done. However, it was not prominent that the movie travel in 20 years by judging on Sandra's makeup and the hairstyle. Golden Chicken successfully and deliberately make it looking cheap to suit the mood and the atmosphere of the hooker lifestyle. It never fail to entertain and satisfy the audience. This movie has some similarities to Boogie Night. Unlike Boogie Night, it is more intense with porn, drugs and the up and downs of a porn star. |
