Golden Chicken is No Turkey Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I have to come right out and admit that my expectations on this film were rather low prior to watching it. I was afraid that it might turn out to be some cheap explotive quickie but found instead that the film has some heart and a great deal of humor, much of it unexpected.

Some of the film's success must be attriputed to Ng. While I didn't find her at all convincing as a teenager I found her performance more and more believeable as her character aged. Her character always comes agross as likeable and at times sympathetic. And then there's the humor. Having her attempt martial arts drunk, while Jackie Chan's character from "The Legend of Drunken Master" is playing on TV screens behind her was inspired. And the part where her idol emerges from the TV, ala Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo," to instruct her on faking orgasms is a truely funny and inspired moment, reminding me of Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally."

It was also a nice change of pace to hear America refenced in either a positive light, or in a neutral tone, as when a character is asked how things in America are the reply is "things never change in America." Not totally accurate, but them given the changes we see Hong Kong go thru during her time as a "chicken" then the response seems accurate enough.

The VCD, from Panorama looks and sounds very good. I recommend this film!

Excellent comedy Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Sandra Ng is fantastic in her role as a 'woman of the night' the cameo appearance of Andy Lau also deserves a mention as does the performance given by eric tsang. This film stirs up a mixture of emotions as it tells a tale of hong kong through its highs and lows from the 1980s through to present day, through the eyes of a working girl. My award for comedy of the year. Simply Brilliant!

learn from it Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
every film give you an unique idea. This is what you can learn and do research on it.
In the view of intelligence, ordinary people's boring film give them much more room to learn

OK Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
this movie wasn't as good as i hoped...a lot of people said it's really funny, but i only found it kind of funny. yes sandra acts well and she is funny, but really the whole prostitute thing didn't make me laugh. the history of hk was more interesting in this movie than anything else. check it out if you like sandra ng and want a history lesson, but prepare yourself for some explicit storyline.

Couldn't be any better! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is an excellent movie. I saw it twice in the cinema, but I still want to buy a DVD. It's not only a comedy, it means a lot for HK people. We have to keep hanging on, one day we will step out of the clouds. Hang On!!! Don't give up! Thanks, Peter Chan and Sandra Ng!

An American film addict's POV Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
From my Point Of View, i think "Chicken" with all its story elements is an excellent movie. Although i did not recognize the movie music & the part it played in setting the time periods, I did recognize the various socio-political time periods that Kum went through by the clothing/hairstyles and the years that flashed on the screen.

More than just a mere 'hooker's story, the movie echoed the pathos of a woman making a living on the mean streets of HK. She give up her son, changes the direction of her 'career' & still retains her sense of humor and ability to trust & love. No small feat in the world today.

Congratulations to the producers, actors and all involved in the making of "Golden Chicken". The story was moving, the sex fun & not too gratuitious or raunchy & characters believable & compassionate. Distribute this instead of the sorry waste of time & money spent on the useless American film "Gigli".
