Great film, bad subtitles Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Good Morning" is a delightful tale of communication and community. Director Ozu Yasujiro said of this film: "Human beings love idle prattle, but when it comes to saying something important at critical moments, they get tongue-tied."

The film tells of housewives spatting with each other over miscommunications, nervous young lovers stumbling to express themselves, and two adorable boys who refuse to talk to anyone until their parents agree to buy a TV set. Ozu likens most adult conversations to a silly farting game that the boys play with their friends.

This is among Ozu's funniest movies and his most heartwarming tales. As usual for an Ozu movie, the film looks great. However, I have to downgrade this Panorama Entertainment edition of the film for its paucity of English subtitles. There are entire long dialogues which simply go without subtitles and many of the films funniest remarks go untranslated. I now will have to purchase the Criterion Collection version of this Ozu classic.
