Griffin, a rather lonely mid-level salesman, is told by his doctor that he has terminal cancer. Then one night, while attending a "Death and Dying" class, he meets Phoenix, a beautiful yet emotionally closed off woman, who is there to write a classroom review. They begin a courtship filled with humor and small adventures. But Griffin withholds sharing his deeply personal secret - he is dying. Their sweet, funny relationship grows even as he is confronted by his ever-increasing pain. One night, Phoenix discovers a secret stash of books about coming to terms n Griffin's apartment with dying. She flies into a rage and thought Griffin just played with her heart. She reveals that she was actually in the class that night because of her own terminal illness. After the initial shock, Griffin and Phoenix realize that all they have in the world is each other, and the love and laughter of the moment. For the first time, they feel real joy in life because they will be with each other in the small time that they have left remaining.
