Excellent and Unique Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Chitose sings the songs of her homeland Okinawa with elegance and blends traditional music with her own style very well. 10 out of 10. However, this CD isn't for someone looking for a fast rock or pop beat. It is more traditional, slightly slower, and quite beautiful.

Hajime Chitose Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I have not taken Hajime Chitose CD out of my stereo sindce I got it two weeks ago. Hajime Chitose's music style is shimauta. Shimauta is from southern Japan. Shimauta singers have unique singing style with a trembling throat. She uses her voice in the very traditional Japanese way of singing, blending this with mellow pop melodies makes the CD put you in relaxing hypnotic state. She definatly has a unique voice. Give her a try I'm sure you will fall in love with this CD as I have.

Wow Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
What a breakthrough from the all too usual Jpop voices! In the way that Chihiro Onitsuka has a distinctive voice, so too does Chitose Hajime. Mesmerizing!

Using the distinctive Okinawan style of singing, her vocal style brings together old and new. She is an artist; not just another dime a dozen jpop voice.

NOT up to standard... Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
After all the hype over this release, I am dissapointed to say I hate it. Yes, the singer has a unique voice (thank God...because it is awful) and sings with expression, but throughout the CD her voice wobbles and wavers and reminds me more of yoddeling than any J-Pop I have ever heard. I am not happy with this purchase, and don't plan on either listening to it again, or ordering more music from this artist. I suppose one has to really love her voice and style to appreciate it, because to a casual J-Pop listener it is too over-the-top and not entertaining at all. It's almost stressful to keep up with her singing because it's all over the range. True...it takes talent to have a wide range. BUT, it takes more talent to restrain that range to a manageable listening style and this singer seems to try to toss all kinds of notes and range all over each song and it's exhausting to keep up with. She is NOT fun to listen to. If you are looking for true J-Pop...do not follow the write-up on this CD that YesAsia has provided...you will NOT be happy with the result at all.
