What would two dogs and a rice cake say to each other? In the quirky CG animation series
Hal & Bons, a hyperactive rice cake named Mochi-kun interviews the two titular blasé, couch-potato, beer-drinking canines. Hal and Bons, however, are less than thrilled about Mochi-kun's presence and interviewing abilities and would much rather eat him.
Split into four short episodes, Hal & Bons was first released in 2001 by Grasshoppa!, a bi-monthly digital magazine featuring a collection of experimental shorts with each issue. Grasshoppa! was the brain child of none other than Takida Kazuto and Ishii Katsuhito, the acclaimed producer-director duo behind Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl and The Taste of Tea. Though Grasshoppa! only lasted four issues, Hal & Bons was very popular, so much so that Ishii resurrected the dogs for a second season last year. The original four episodes of Hal & Bons, previously scattered across the Grasshoppa! releases, is now available together in one set for the first time. Fans of Japanese animation and Katsuhito Ishii can't miss out on this rare offering!
This release comes with the following:
Episode 1 - "Mochi-kun Did It"
Episode 2 - "The Interview Continues"
Episode 3 - "Beginning a Life Together"
Episode 4 - "Soybean's Secret"
Extras - "Time of Defeat", "Seven Changes of Mochi-kun!", and "Hal & Bons Room"
