Han Hee Jung's music has been described as 'dream pop', a kind of strummy experimental alt-pop reminiscent of the style explored on three of Faye Wong's late 1990s albums, "Irritated", "Scenic Tour", and "Love Stranger Only" (or perhaps like a much sweeter Sam Phillips). Miss Han not only sings on this collection, she also produced it, and wrote and arranged all of the songs. Her warm vocals and clever arrangements make the album unfailingly engaging even when the occasional melody gets a bit distended. If you like your pop music just a tad unconventional, then I strongly recommend you give this delightful CD a try. |

The album starts out with the dizzy title-track 'Your Document'. Then immediately softens out to the second track, 브로콜리의 위험한 고백( Brocolli's Dangerous Confession), which is a bit more balladesque. The third track was released as the single for this album, and is happy, skipping down the street music. The sleepiest tracks are #4, #7 and #10. #'s 5 and 6 have that same flavor of starlight-twinkling dizziness expressed in the 1st track. #8, glow, is probably one of my favorites because of the subtle way it embodies the whole album. #9 'I need a vacation' is also one of my favs, I really like the breakdown that takes place from about 1:25~1:40. I had no disappointments with this album because I love Han Hee Jeong unconditionally and in my book she can do and has done no wrong. Sweet, soft vocals without being intrusive. A somewhat different direction from her days with Bluedawn. Overall it is just a sweet and straightforward album. I'm very happy with it.^^ |

Well, it took several attempts for this site to locate Han Hee Jung's debut solo CD for me to purchase, but I have to admit that it was certainly worth the wait. This singer has one of those rare vocal talents of sounding both ethereal yet powerful at the same time. She manages a very magical airy tone while maintaining complete strength and mastery of each note. She never sounds wispy or insubstantial, despite the over-all style of the release. For those who have heard of them...I would easily compare this singer and her music (she seems to have writen the majority if not all of the compositions on this release...) to the style (both musically and vocally...) of a combination between The Sundays (lead singer Harriet Wheeler) and The Innocence Mission (lead singer Keren Peris). For me, that is an excellent combination. It's not only rare to find artists performing in this earthy, lyrical style...it's even rarer to find an amazing artist to pull off the technicalities of such a style with dexterity. Most of the tracks presented are ballad-esque (I say -esque because with this particular style of music, the whole point of the style is that gentle, lilting quality that just naturally conveys into a sleepy ballad format...), but there are several tracks that actually have quite a bit of tempo for the sub-genre. In fact, two of the more up-tempo tracks #3 and #5 are two of my favorites contained on the disk. Track #1 is my third for rounding out a "Top 3" selection from this gem of a release. I highly recommend this CD for those who enjoy modern arrangements with an uncompromised vocal. This is purity at it's best...yet the music and lyric ability are solid. I know some artists could hide behind musical clutter and whisper out the lyrics to cover poor vocal ability or substandard orchastration...then classify it as "the style in which it was intended"...however, this release is nothing of the sort. It is abstract and tranquil in it's own hypnotic way...but nothing is lacking in quality at all. I have to say this was a surprise find for me, and I can only hope others will try this CD and also be impressed. |
