Beautiful album

Miu Sakamoto's 2nd album is quite different from her first, Dawn Pink. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. This album sounds more minimalist, using primarily piano and voice, with the addition of guitar and strings. Drums and percussion, when present, are fairly subdued with the exception of track 6, which has some nice bursts of dance-able energy. If I've made the album sound at all boring, let me be clear--it's not! Sakamoto's vocals and lyrics are top-notch, as is the talent of all others involved. Listening to this album is like being in a beautiful dream. It evokes a whole range of emotions, from the excitement of the "Never-Ending Story" to the melancholy of "Flowers of Time" and the lustful yearning of "Path of Desire" (my favorite track--the vocals & lyrics are so sexy!). The album closes with a stunning song featuring a male chorus to back up Sakamoto. My one major complaint is that the album takes too long to get started. "Memento Harmonious," while a good mood-setter, is an instrumental that lasts well over 5 minutes. Personally, waiting that long to hear Sakamoto sing is torturous! So, I usually just skip to track 2. I highly recommend purchasing this album--I'm glad I did. This isn't the kind of music that comes along often. Much talent, heart, and soul was put into "Harmonious!" |
