After barely surviving an encounter with the resurrected Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) the year before, an angsty and alienated Harry Potter (David Radcliffe) returns to Hogwarts for his fifth year. The Order of the Phoenix, which fought Voldemort years ago, has been regrouped, but the Ministry of Magic is doing all they can to muffle news of Voldemort's return and undermine Dumbledore's credibility. More than ever now, Harry is the subject of whispers and stares and even accusations and character attacks from people who refuse to believe the truth. Things only get worse when the Ministry mole, pink iron lady Professor Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), succeeds in ousting Dumbledore from Hogwarts and puts in place draconian rules such that no one learns anything. Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) decide to take matters into their own and start a secret group to prepare for the worst.
The fifth installment of the J.K. Rowling series, Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix delves deeper into darker themes as Harry and crew continue to come of age in dangerous times. This film sees the introduction of new characters like Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and Luna Lovegood; the revelation of a fateful prophecy; and a shocking loss that will greatly affects Harry's future. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is helmed by David Yates, who is also directing the sixth film of the series, Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince.
