Based on the manga by Mizuno Toko, Haruka naru toki no naka de has become a multimedia success in Japan, with a popular manga, a 26-episode TV series, an OVA, and an expansive series of console games. The series tells the tale of Akane Motomiya, an average high school girl in Japan who gets suddenly transported to back to the Heian period (794-1184 AD), where she discovers that she has mysterious magical powers. Called the Priestess of the Dragon God, she's given eight handsome young men, called the Hachiyou, who are sworn to protect her. Akane's powers may be the only force that can stop the evil Oni Clan from taking over the world. However, Akane's powers could also spell doom for the world, if she were somehow swayed by the Oni clan...

In summer 2006, Haruka naru toki no naka de receceived its first theatrical movie, Haruka naru toku no naka de - Maihitoyo, directed by Shinohara Toshiya (director of various Inuyasha movies), and featuring the continuing adventures of Akane and the Hachiyou. The DVD release comes with an illustrated booklet. Japanese language only.
