Generous collection of Xiao Yue songs Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Xiao Yue's music follows a winning formula: Its folk melodies, sometimes tinged with Tibetan and Mongolian influences, are captured in arrangements that marry traditional and contemporary instrumentation to create a fresh yet familiar sound. Xiao Yue's vocals are pure, perfectly pitched, and unfailingly pleasant. The quality of the recorded sound is spectacular. Some of the arrangements become quite adventurous. Track 10 filters a Chinese folk melody through a Hindi film music arrangement with a reggae beat and somehow makes it all work! Track 4 seeks to marry a folk song to a hip-hop arrangement, with less successful results. While there are occasional stumbles, at least twelve musical gems may be found on this album. I recommend it highly. (Note that six of the songs on this album also appear on Xiao Yue's "Dreams About Tangula" album.)
