考驗來自接二連三的黑柬，考驗來自即將引發的黑色驚爆點。
刑警隊長鄭牧收到香港警方傳真協查通報，蘭琦詐騙8500萬港幣潛逃。同時，又收到黑紙白字的恫嚇信，收信人是蔣玉萍，是其十年未見面的丈夫馮路被綁架。鄭通過推理判斷，蘭、馮為一人。香港派警員林勇協助追緝馮路。
鄭在調查線索的過程中，得知馮表哥齊天樂被判刑出獄但無蹤影，又牽扯出馮當年的情人許紫鶯及賀理等人。同時香港記者丁紋婷、被詐騙公司商務顧問鐘澤、馮在香港的“二婚”田虹妮也來到本市，各懷鬼胎地進行角逐。馮在逃亡過程中，有大陸U市的鄭牧、香港警員林勇、當年的情人許紫鶯、“第一夫人”蔣玉萍，“第二夫人”田虹妮、殺手鐘澤、香港記者丁紋婷、律師賀理、表兄齊天樂9方面的追蹤。
鄭又通過派往香港的周欣了解出此款乃國內公司被馮的老闆詐騙，馮又詐騙老闆，為避免國有資產流失，鄭採取欲擒故縱、內緊外松、跟蹤追擊、瞞天過海、放線釣魚等方法並與高科技配合。在追蹤馮的過程中，遇到贖金拋入河中無人認領、田虹妮因車禍死亡、賀理喝酒過多變成植物人、齊意外死亡無人認屍、馮為“殺人犯”等視線干擾，都被鄭一一破解。幾經曲折，終於正確判斷炮製綁架案的真兇。
鄭捨生忘死，擒拿綁匪，並與林結成生死情誼。國有資產完好無損。
