　　從五十年代中期開始，「電懋」和「邵氏」兩大公司已展開了激烈的競爭，這場逐鹿戰到了五九年「邵氏」紅星尤敏改投「電懋」旗下而推至白熱化。本片正是尤敏加盟「電懋」的第一部電影，即奪得翌年「亞洲影展」的最佳女主角獎。她在片中飾演溫柔而敏感的中學生，與父親（王引）相依為命，但未幾卻發現從意大利回來的姨母（王萊），竟是她的親母，但卻是她與另一男人所生，父親原來是養父。她要在跟隨母親到意大利學習聲樂與留在香港侍奉父親之間，作出痛苦的抉擇…影片的劇本寫得細緻而感人，尤敏對矛盾的內心掙扎掌握得十分準確，使全片的成績超越一般倫理劇的格局與層次。
　　This is the film with which Lucilla You Min, the Audrey Hepburn of the Hong Kong cinema in the 1950’s and 60’s, won her first Best Actress Award at the Asian Film Festival. She plays a young girl who is torn between her divorced mother and her father (who turns out to be only her foster father). Mother wants her to accompany herself to Italy and study music there, whereas father is injured in an accident… Melodramatic yet restrained, heavily-plotted yet never sensational, the film is also marked by the proficient direction of Tang Huang, the meticulously written and well-structured screenplay, as well as a fine cast.
