YesAsia Editorial Description

Directed by Heo In Moo (Love so Divine), Herb sensitively looks into the life of a young woman with the mind of a child. Much like Marathon, the film centers on a mother's love for her child. Gang Hye Jung has continuously challenged herself with a wide range of roles in films like Old Boy, Welcome to Dongmakgol, and Love Phobia, and this time she completely captures the character of a childlike woman who gets her first taste of romance and tragedy. Bravely venturing into a new world, she comes of age on her own terms, and the process is both heartwarming and tearjerking. Veteran actress Bae Jong Ok (Ad Lib Night) anchors the film with her touching performance as the mother, while Jung Kyung Ho (Gangster High) portrays Gang Hye Jung's love interest.

At first look, Sang Eun (Gang Hye Jung) is a beautiful and healthy 20-year-old woman, but in reality she has the intelligence of a seven-year-old child. Lovingly cared for by her mother (Bae Jong Ok), the simple and sweet Sang Eun sees the world in fairy tale colors. One day, a Prince Charming comes into her life in the form of policeman Jeong Bom (Jung Kyung Ho). Through budding romance and unexpected tragedy, Sang Eun learns to face the world on her own two feet.

A heartwarming tale Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I suppose that if one wished to be hard-hearted, one might criticize "Herb" as being overly sentimental and manipulative, but this sweet little film melted my heart, made me weep, and left me very glad that I'd seen it.

Gang Hye Jung is utterly winning as Sang Eun, a mentally challenged 20 year old. Never for a moment do we get the feeling that Miss Gang is playing a part; she brilliantly brings her character to life. Bae Jong Ok is equally strong has her loving, long-suffering, and very protective mother. Jung Kyung Ho also deserves kudos for making us believe that his character Jeong Bom, a brash young police officer, becomes both smitten and uplifted by Sang Eun.

Ultimately, "Herb" is about growing up and growing together in the face of life's challenges. Director Heo In Moo does a splendid job of telling this story in a way that never seems trite or maudlin. It is a testament to Director Heo's skills that the film's 105 minute running length seems just right.

"Herb" is very highly recommended for a general audience.

A BEAUTIFUL FILM! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Parts of the story are cliched and predictable, but that does not get in the way of enjoying this film. Kang Hye Jeong's performance is outstanding and captivating! This is a touching film and is sure to bring a smile and a few tears to everyone!

Touching! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
From the out set you instantly fall in love with Sang Eun, her innocence and sunny nature is a delight to watch and expertly acted by Gang Hye Jung.
You can see just how easy it is for Jeong Bom to fall for her.

The movie is full of laughs, tears, love and heartbreak and you feel each one of those feelings along with Sang Eun.
The end result is a feeling of warmth and the moral is that no matter how dark it gets the sun always rises.
Just beautiful!
