best version of the director's Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Just about everyone has seen this movie and already knows the story, soundtrack, acting, directing, and the cinematography, so I'm just reviewing this disc.

This Hong Kong Edko Films Ltd. release is the best version of the director's cut (roughly 10 minutes longer than the non-director's cut). Compared to the Guangdong Face Home Video release, this Edko release has a much better picture quality, the opening and closing words on the screen are shown in English (good for those who can't read the Chinese characters), and the Face release has an annoying watermark that pops up regularly thoughout the film - this Edko version does not. However, the Edko version lacks Faye Wong's song in the credits and there are no bonus materials at all on the DVD. Also, the description is incorrect - this Edko version DOES indeed have optional English subtitles. There's a comparision of the two director's cut releases on dvdactive.com. Enjoy!

US Version was disappointing. Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Historically correct to an extent but I according to history kung fu did not appear til after this era. Also, the flying over waters is too fantasy-like, not only that but it just doesn't look good nor realistic. But what I disliked most especially from the US version alone is a line "Our Nation" Historically the prhase was "All Under Heaven" and I believe the Hong Kong version says All Under Heaven but "Our Nation"? Sounds like a Christian person editted this or something...

Twisted from dictatorship Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
This movie is definitely a piece of art.

The king is a BAD king in Chinese history who unified China but killed lots and lots of scholars, and civilians, and destroyed existing cultures and books.

Unified a kingdom and then killed lots of people and destroyed all previous cultures and books are serious crimes! The hero in this movie should kill the king.

However, in this movie, the story wants to tell the audience that unifying China is a glory itself, and killing lots of civilians is not a crime, is a necessity, is a process.

This is a twisted logic that debase human values.

I heard that this movie was written and funded by a dictationship country -- Mainland China Communist Party.

A Decent Movie with Excellent Artistry Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
First of all, the images in this movie are beautiful. Each camera angle was thought out carefully by the director, envoking vibrant colors that portray the mood of the scene. It's the artistic quality that has captured me when watching this film. The plotline is pretty interesting, with skilled actors/actresses. It's a step-up from previous martial-arts movies.
