Fun single!
|
"beautiful green"? Um, sorry, but to the previous reviewer -- it's "the brilliant green". And.. a Japanese Avril? Sorry, going to disagree with that. They're not alike, except for the fact they're both girls who have pop-punk music. Anyways, this is a good single. In fact, I dislike the brilliant green -- every song I've heard is boring and uninspired, in my opinion. I think that's why I like Tomoko's alter-egos (heavenly and february) so much. They show off her immense talent. She can pull off synthed-out, sugary-sweet pop, then go to rockish pop-punk flawlessy. This is a wonderful single, both songs are catchy and get stuck in your head easily. Well worth your money! =) |

Japanese Avril Lavigne
|
I hate to draw comparisons between artists, especially between those from entirely different hemispheres, but so many points correlate here it's insane. The music is well crafted and slickly produced, typical of the late pop-punk gems that are being pressed out from the music factory: largely indistinguishable from one another but serving well their intended purpose of being catchy tunes to jump up and down to. The ambiguity of genre in the leading lady pops up here too. Like Avril, she is moving from a softer style of music to pop-punk complete with candy-punker girl-with-an-attitude image; although our bony canadian was initially signed to her label as an acoustic artist, Tommy has been moving back and forth. That said, if you like beautiful green, this should hit you just fine. In fact, it seems to me that TH6 songs could easily fit into beautiful green's set, as opposed to playing with a pack of white high-school kids. In the PV for "Hey my friend" they seem intensely uncomfortable holding their instruments and being forced to make some sort of presence. Maybe the half bottle of hair gel holding their shiny little spikes up is uncomfortable. Once again, the music is great if you enjoy this genre...even recommended. Just don't expect anything breakthrough. |

Tommy and Her Wonderful Friends
| I bought Hey My Friend?completely on impulse and without having listened to anything by Tommy heavenly6. Of course, I am a fan of Tommy february6, but I did not have very high expectations for this CD. I had a hard time imagining Tommy doing rock and I had never listened to any of her music with The Brilliant Green, so I did not know what to expect. When the CD arrived in the mail a week later, I was pleasantly surprised to find a wholly satisfying single from Tommy heavenly6. Hey my friend?is an airy pop/rock song filled with a carefree summertime energy. Roller coaster ride ¡÷?the CDs second track is harder and much more of a rock?song, but still has the same infectious energy as Hey my friend.? All in all, Hey my friend?is a great introduction to Tommy heavenly6s style and an all around great piece of J-Pop/Rock. |
