YesAsia Editorial Description

Taiwan's top idols Rainie Yang and Show Luo go lovey-dovey in the romantic comedy series Hi My Sweetheart! Produced by the "Godmother of Idol Dramas" Chai Zhi Ping and directed by Lin He Long (Hot Shot), the Taiwan-Mainland China co-production features Show and Rainie as lovers on-screen as well as the performers of the various theme songs in their first collaboration in idol drama. The popular pair is flanked by Taiwanese co-stars Lee Wei, Maggie Wu, Chocolate Lai, and Mainland pop duo Blue Bird Flying Fish.

Son of a Taiwan entrepreneur, Xue Hai (Show Luo) was brought up by his over-protective sisters and is pure and innocent to the point of foolish. Yearning for independence, he enrolls in a university in Hangzhou under the disguise of nerdy poor boy Lin Dalang (inspired by the famous theme tune of The Pink Panther). Hai has his first taste of love with the overbearing and violence-prone classmate, "Sweetheart" Chen Baozhu (Rainie Yang), but it ends prematurely when Baozhu disappears without a trace one day. Deeply hurt after being dumped, the brokenhearted Hai turns 180-degree into an arrogant and frivolous playboy...

Best TV drama ever! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
First you're gonna laugh, then you're gonna cry; you're gonna be in stitches again, and shed tears till the very last DVD, I promise. Don't watch this show without a pack of hankies at hand -- don't say I didn't warn you! It's my favourite TV drama I've seen thus far in my whole f****** life! You won't ever forget it, and it will come back to haunt you. The female thespian superstar Rainie Yang is just breathtaking as the judo black belt badass sassy girl with a tender heart -- the part was tailor-made for her, it seems. Don't blink. Conversly, the main bespectacled actor is more hilarious than the geeky otaku virgin Densha Otoko and Jim Carrey combined as the basheful dweeb Darren clad in pink; he's also a fanboy of the Pink Panther as well. At times, the show feels like an anime with timely special effects that really contribute to the awesomeness of the series. I swear I didn't get bored one second. The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns and quite intelligent, I must say. The unforgettable characters evolve in a surprising way too and the chemistry between them is ineffable; they are like the Yin and the Yang. The situations are packed with cross-purposed talkings and misunderstandings that add to the dramatic irony subtly wowen throughout this TV program that has achieved cult status in the heart of many viewers... I can't say more to avoid irksome spoilers. Buy it and watch it every year. I also recommend other romantic Japanese TV series such as Kami-sama mou sukoshi dake, Bokudake no Madonna, Kimi wa petto, Strawberry on the Shortcake, Taiyou no uta, One Liter of Tears, Ace wo nerae etc. Enjoy. ^_^

Bestest Drama! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I have to say this is the best drama I've seen so far!! I LOVED the comedy in this show yet it still was dramatic enough to make me cry a number of times! I must say Rainie is amazing in this drama, Im used to seeing her as a sweet kind girl, but her acting as a tough mean girl is perfect. Show is also a stunning actor, I love how well he plays both a dork and playboy so well! The music in this drama is very catchy too! I did notice that with the english sub. the characters names are english. It is different but I do find it easier to remember who's who. Not a problem to me. There were a few typos, but every drama has them.

I watched this drama with 6 of my coworkers. All of them have never watched an asian drama and they all criticsized me for watching dramas and bringing something like that to work. By the end of the day, they were all hooked on this show and we watched 16 episodes in one day!

I highly recommend this drama! :D

One of the best Dramas I have seen in 2010. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is definitely one of the best Rainie Yang dramas I have ever seen; I dare say even better than Devil Besides You. The first half is filled with laugh-your-head-off comedy, while the second half contains a combination of laughter and extreme sadness that would make some people cry rivers.

While I acknowledge that some will disagree, I believe the chemistry here between Ranie and Show (in this Drama ONLY) surpassed that of Rainie and Mike. It was unique seeing how Show played both a dork and a playboy, while Rainie had to carry the role of abusive girl friend turned caring companion.

A truly enjoyable Taiwanese drama, even for this die-hard TVB fan.

Be warned: Tissues are recommended.

Widescreen Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
@por

While a suspect that Taiwan and China versions of this series are too letterbox releases the issue of widescreen presentation has very little to do with HD. Yes, when you have a HD master it is easy to do a widescreen presentation but you can do a widescreen presentation even if the actual recording was done in SD. It all boils down the actual recording situation: was a widescreen setting used there ? I have a nasty feeling that natively this series was shot using widescreen aspect ratio and the reason we are setting a latterboxed image was due to due to recycling the same source which was being used for television broadcasts (if no widespread digital tv in Taiwan then letterboxing is the only way to show an original widescreen image in 4:3 format). Still I believe it to be stupid since all DVD players can letterbox a native widescreen image so there is no real reason to use letterboxing in a DVD release since it will throw away resolution and picture quality.

What I really wanted!!! My favorite drama of 2010! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Apparently, people didn't know that Taiwan hasn't gone to HD yet, so that is why all their videos is full-screen like. For me, I don't care about the letterbox, but as long it provides a good quality video to watch! ^_^

@Maxi
Korean dramas these days is in HD is because they started really early shooting in HD since 2007, but I know that China & Taiwan haven't shoot their dramas in HD yet, so we'll see if they will soon... I bet the original Taiwan version must also be letterbox too.

I say that I really do hate the advertisements they have in this DVD and you can't ever skip it but to fast forward it only and there is also with the name changing. I know it's easier to recognized if its in english, but I prefer original chinese written names (I mean the pinyin names ex: Xue Hai etc.) like what yesasia puts.

Another thing about this DVD is that the subtitle is kinda small for me to read... and I hate that. I don't want to look up close every time to read and plus, no one else would want to read small subtitles too.

Overall, I glad with this purchase, but please make the advertisements skip-able. And please make sure the subtitles are readable too. ^_^
