越前福井藩の貧乏侍・六兵衛は、藩きっての臆病者なうえに、剣術槍術はまるでだめ。その評判が災いして、自分にはもちろん、両親亡き後、なにかと兄の面倒を見ている妹かねにも縁談の話がこない。そんなある日、藩で剣術指南をしていた剣豪・仁藤が、殿様のお気に入りである御側小姓・加納を斬って逐電するという事件が起こる。城主は仁藤を討てと命じるが、仁藤の剣の腕前を知っている藩士たちはその役目を引き受けたがらない。そこで六兵衛は、自分が上意打ちの刺客になれば妹に縁談が来るだろうと考えて、その役目を引き受ける。そして、剣のできない臆病者の彼ならではの奇抜な作戦で、剣豪・仁藤に向かっていく。 予告篇
