Horror Hotline - Big Head Monster departs from the usual Hong Kong horror-comedy fare with a straight-faced exploration of a terrifying urban legend, courtesy of director Soi Cheang. Francis Ng is Ben, the producer of a late-night radio show called "Horror Hotline" When a frightened caller relates the tale of the "Big-Headed Baby", the listeners are driven into a tizzy, and soon many more callers back up the mysterious urban legend. Josie Ho is Mavis, a foreign TV reporter sent to Hong Kong to do a segment on "Horror Hotline", and she quickly decides to use the Big-Headed Baby legend as the focus of her work. But as she and her crew dig into the legend, more mysterious - and even murderous - circumstances begin to occur, leading up to a harrowing, heart-pounding climax! Soi Cheang directs Horror Hotline - Big Head Monster with a somber, spare style that conveys and magnifies approaching dread not unlike the popular Japanese and Korean films of the recent Asian horror boom. Co-starring Sam Lee and Niki Chow, this gripping excursion into urban darkness is a low-budget horror film with a satisfyingly tense, merciless edge.
