火宅之人為二十世紀日本百大電影之一，於香港曾轟動一時。作家一雄（緒形拳飾）前妻去世後，與數名年幼子女和卜析妻子開始新生活。一個兒子因病變成殘障，家庭從此不再和睦。他按捺不住，拋妻棄子，投向新戀人的懷抱，但轉眼他又發現這亦非安身之所，於是又再逃走，繼續酒醒不知何處的旅途。本片改篇自名作家壇一雄的自傳式作品。緒形拳演繹行為放縱內心滿苦惱的作家，演出絲絲入扣。片中幾場大膽的情慾戲被奉為經典，松[土反]慶子的風韻更是顛倒眾生！
Adapted from the autobiographical story by Kazuo Dan which was published a few months before his death, House Of Fire tells story of a popular writer sharing his complicated life with his family, his numerous mistresses and his work.
