Howl Vol. 2

Howl rose instantly to the top with his debut hit Aeng moo sae ("Parrot"), followed by another smash Perhaps Love, featured as the theme song for the drama The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince. But gaining huge popularity as a singer wasn't enough for this ambitious talent as he plunged himself into the world of soundtrack production, working extensively on dramas like I Am Sorry, I Love You, A Love To Kill , and Prince Hours, which earned him well-deserved recognition as a producer. After a three year break, Howl returns with his sophomore release Listen To The Music Of The Wind. The album comes in a unique photo album style package, and features photos Howl personally took during his recent trip to Japan, plus inscriptions of his own writing.

The album kicks off with the titular intro Listen To The Music Of The Wind, an ethnic fusion number composed by Kim Hyung Bo of 2nd Moon. A display of great teamwork, the principal track Goodbye Day (Track 3) was created by renowned producer Jang Jun Ho, who previously worked with MC Mong and Shinhwa, and Kwon Tae Eun, one of JYP Entertainment's ace producers whose resume includes Rain, g.o.d, and Wonder Girls. A fusion of 80s style synthpop and trendy modern rock, Goodbye Day features lyrics penned by Howl himself. Other highlights include shibuya-kei electronica number Sonyeon, sonyeo reul man nada ("Boy Meets Girl" - Track 4) and French-style jazz waltz concoction Les Amante (Track 2).

HowL 2집 <바람의 노래를 들어라>

맑고 투명한 미성으로 우리들의 마음을 촉촉히 적셔주었던 가수 하울이 2집 <바람의 노래를 들어라> 음반을 들고 따뜻한 봄 우리 곁으로 돌아왔다. 3년 만에 2집으로 돌아온 하울은 실력파 작곡가의 곡으로 다양한 음악을 골고루 들을 수 있는 명품음반으로 돌아왔으며, 전곡을 작사해 하울 특유의 감성에 빠져들 수 있을 것이다.

타이틀 곡인 ‘Good-bye day(외로움은 안녕)’는 JYP수석 프로듀서로 비, GOD, 원더걸스 등의 앨범을 작업해왔던 프로듀서 권태은과 MC몽, 신화 등을 작업했던 유명 작곡가 장준호가 함께 작업한 곡으로, 하울이 직접 가사를 붙여 그 의미를 더하고 있다. 80년대 뉴웨이브 신스 팝 쟝르와 트랜디한 모던락적인 감성이 아름답게 조화를 이룬 곡으로, 하울의 친근하고 아름다운 보컬이 신선하게 다가온다. 앨범의 인트로 ‘바람의 노래를 들어라’는 하울의 새로운 도전이 돋보이는 곡이다. 에스닉 퓨전 그룹 ‘두 번째 달’의 리더 김현보가 작곡한 곡으로, 대중에게는 생소한 에스닉(ethnic) 스타일 음악이다. 이외에도 프렌치 스타일의 재즈 왈츠곡 ‘Les Amante’, 시부야케이 일렉트로니카 스타일의 곡 ‘소년, 소녀를 만나다’ 등이 수록되어있다. 뿐만 아니라, 이번 앨범은 하울이 일본여행을 하며, 직접 찍은 사진과 찍힌 사진에 대한 하울의 감성적인 글귀가 돋보이는 사진집 형식의 색다른 앨범을 선보인다. 마치 하울의 일기를 훔쳐보고 블로그를 구경하는 듯한 느낌이며, 하울 만의 생각을 엿볼 수 있는 친근감이 돋보인다. 다양한 음악뿐 아니라 사진과 글까지 다양하게 보고 들을 수 있는 색다른 형식의 소장가치를 느낄 수 있는 명품음반으로 돌아왔다.
