本片講述了雁落灘大隊不同家庭出身的幾個青年人在愛情問題上的不同遭遇。羅小山其生父是個地主，隻身來到雁落灘，為的是能夠找上個媳婦。富農女兒劉惠玲，想攀個成份好的高枝，一心要跟大隊書記兒子康文炳搞對象，但這只是一廂情願。經過種種曲折，羅小山與書記女兒秀雲相伴而去，文炳也離開了家，而劉惠玲抱著孩子回到了雁落灘。
