YesAsia Editorial Description
There seems to be no end in sight for Taiwan singer/actor/superstar Jay Chou's creativity. His latest smash will be featured as theme song in the latest Jet Li silver screen blockbuster, Fearless.
The Chinese name of the same-titled EP is Huo Yuan Chia, and Jay couldn't be happier because it has always been his wish to co-operate with his revered idol, Jet Li. It's Jay's latest song in the tradition of "Nunchaku" and "Dragon Fist" and comes accompanied by the sound of classic Chinese instruments. What's more, besides writing the lyrics and performing his latest work Jay also directed its MV that shows impressive martial arts sequences by the one and only Jet Li. Fans can also look forward to a live version song called "World Sacrifice" that Jay wrote for Jordan Chan and which presents the Taiwanese star's first ever Canto-pop song. As if all that wasn't good enough, this version comes with an exclusive DVD featuring captivating MV versions of songs from Jay's most recent album November's Chopin, exclusive video clip material as well as fantastic Bonus highlights of his The One + Incomparable tour at the Hong Kong Coliseum!

| I became a fan of Jay Chou after seeing the movie Initial D. I rented it then bought it. I liked the two songs that I heard from Jay Chou. (I had no idea he sang those songs at the time). Well, I became a big fan of his acting and singing. I had no Idea how BIG he is or how popular. Good music is good music. I don't know Chinese but I am learning the language and love the culture and people. I loved this c.d. and the DVD is so great. I've showed it to my family and friends and they really like J's style also. This C.D. plus 2 others that I ordered are great! The initial J and Still Fantasy are TERRIFIC! I am definately buying more. |

Same Jay Chou, Same Talent
|
At first glance (listen?), Huo Yuan Chia does seem a lot like the rest of Jay Chou's faster-paced songs like Lanse Fengbao, but upon closer inspection, it is evident that this song has its own special merits. Part of the reason for Jay Chou's fame is that he does things in his music that are unprecedented and sometimes just plain weird and awkward. Nonetheless, the weirdness is what sets him apart. The repetitions of "huo" and "wo" seem like perfect targets of mockery, but they make the song very different, sort of like the "he he ha hi" in Shuangjiegun. Another notable point is the Chinese operatic singing in falsetto. These are mere details, but they all contribute to the composition that is Huo Yuan Chia. It's not his best work, but it's not the reuse of previous material as some people have mentioned. All of Jay Chou's songs have his own style in them and he hasn't changed much (yes, he pretty much admits to selling out). Nonetheless, I don't mind letting him do what he's good at. As for Hin Sai, just let me explain that I don't know any Cantonese though, according to Cantonese-speakers, his pronunciation is far from perfect. I'm fairly impartial to this song. I wouldn't have cared if they didn't include it in the EP, though a one-song EP wouldn't exactly be a good marketing strategy. It's a nice slow song with pretty piano playing in the background. A bit melancholy too. Props for attempting another language. Now that that's out of the way, let me get to the best part: the music videos. I won't describe them individually, but all of them are high-budget, good-quality MVs with interesting storylines as well. The only MVs not up to par were Lanse Fengbao (CG was too fake for liking) and Heise Maoyi (incredibly drab). Sometimes watching the MVs really makes the songs sound better. The DVD also comes with clips from a concert he held in Hong Kong, which is a great bonus. |

Still Going
|
In the present asian music industry, Jay Chow is still one of the greats. He has one of the "first" in chinese music. He's the first to sing without enunciating words perfectly. In the past, the asian music industry big wigs always emphasize enunciation. He's also a great songwriter. On the flip side, his new CD is starting to sound the same. The songs are good but not "hit songs". Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to continue to buy his CDs. Peace Out |
