OUTSTANDING!!!
| Being a serious Shiina Ringo fan for ages, I was very pleased with this short film, released at the same time as the single STEM. Hyaku Iro Megane, which basically means "hundred color glasses" in Japanese, is a story with no tangible beginning or end, so you're never really sure just what you're watching. It's about a man, a rather dorky detective, and the friendship that ensues for a short period of time between him and the actress he's supposed to be investigating. She bears incredible hospitality towards him, inviting him to eat with her every day and see plays and movies as well. However, at night, a mysterious geisha-like woman (played by Ringo) can be seen from a knothole when he comes to spy every night. Each time, the same exact ritual occurs, until he takes something from her discreetly, and she seems to know the truth. Everything amounts to a climax quickly, where he finally confronts the woman of the night-the actress' true identity or not...what is her name...has it all been a dream. No doubt, the viewer will be stumped after the film resolves and tries to understand what really happened. Not recommended to non-heavy thinkers. I picked up on themes of the Japanese female stereotype, as well as making our own lives bearable to live. If you don't have the single STEM I would strongly recommend this, because the music, and the words will help clarify the true meaning of the film. I loved it. |

Totemo Omoshiroii....
|
Despite hunger pangs eating away at my stomach lining, I couldn't hit the pause button and get dinner ready. I could let my belly wait half an hour. This short film with Shiina Ringo and her music was too interesting to stop watching. The mysterious woman and her night time compatriot were the source of much confusion for our oversleeping gumshoe. Without giving away too much of the plot, suffice to say that if you are a Shiina Ringo Fan, this DVD is well worth the money. Subtitles in English, German, Chinese, French and I think Spanish make watching and understanding (or not) this Short Film enjoyable. Roger Ebert, this is one you have to watch! |

excellent as always!
| I had seen the preview less than 48 hours ago and have been listening to the single endlessly (I had to stop for dinner and such) for about a day now because it is it so beautiful. I am never disappointed with shiina ringo because she's such a goddess with her music. Always new and innovative! Always getting better from the last album |
