CN Blue continues to find their music 'color' with both Yong Hwa and Jong Hyun very much involved in the composition of the 2 new songs in this EP. And I'm liking what I'm hearing! "I don't know why", in true CN Blue style, has distinct guitar rifts with a super catchy chorus. I wasn't sure what to make of it the first time I heard it as Yong Hwa is definitely experimenting with new sounds (synthesizer and a falsetto-ish rap) but after a few listens, I was hooked. It is musically more ambitious than his previous songs and shows promising signs of maturing song-writing. The boys' vocals are solid as always. "Lie" is one of those songs you fall in love with upon first listen. The interplay between Jong Hyun's smooth vocals and Yong Hwa's raspy voice adds multiple textures to the song, like a delicious slice of multi-layered Opera cake. The song gradually builds up as the voices get more emotional but finishes with beautiful restraint. Both songs are already on high replay on my iPod and am eagerly waiting for my CD to arrive so I can listen to the instrumental versions as well. |
