Suffering from a heart condition, Takuma was sent to a hospital where he met his doctor's daughter Mayu. When she found out that Takuma wouldn't survive beyond his 20th birthday, a fact kept secret from him, she encouraged him to live on by making him promise to marry her when they reach 20 years old. Now a teenager, Takuma (Okada Masaki, who won multiple Best New Actor prizes with this performance) finds out the truth about his condition and runs off to a boarding school, away from Mayu (Inoue Mao). Loyal to her lifelong love, Mayu follows him to the school, but will their adolescent promise be fulfilled?

As a child Takuma is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires care from a cardiologist. He soon becomes friends with his doctors young daughter Mayu while being treated at the hospital. One day Mayu overhears her father saying that Takumas condition is serious enough that he most likely wont live beyond the age of 20. Takuma isn't aware of this himself, however, so at 8-years-old he makes a promise to marry Mayu when they turn 20. Later in life, Takuma becomes aware that he wont be able to keep this promise and he begins distancing himself from Mayu in hopes of protecting her.
