"イバラード"とは、画家・井上直久が描き続けてきた幻想世界のこと。独特のタッチと色彩で描かれた空間の広がりが印象的であり、映画「耳をすませば」で主人公の空想シーンの美術に使用され素晴らしい成果を上げた。Blu-ray Disc「イバラード時間」は、井上直久がこれまで描いてきたイバラードの風景画の中から、63ヶ所の風景を本人が厳選し、静止画では描ききれない"時間の流れ"を音楽と効果音、CGと2Dアニメーションを加えることによって表現した作品である。
監督は井上直久自身が担当。彼が厳選した63枚の絵は8篇のシークエンスに分けられ、全てデジタル・データ化。そのデータに井上直久のディレクションの下、様々なエフェクトやCGが加えられている。さらに登場キャラクターの一部を手描きの2Dアニメーションで動かすことにより、作品に新たな息吹が吹き込まれている。CGと編集、デジタルコンポジットはメディアライツの木部鉄也、2Dアニメーションはスタジオジブリが担当。各篇の音楽には松尾清憲と小室和幸による描き下ろし楽曲を採用。イバラードの絵に時間の流れを吹き込んでゆく作業を積み重ね、映像画集「イバラード時間」は生まれた。
ある時は懐かしく、ある時は新鮮に、ある時はゆっくりと、濃密な時間を体験できる、アニメーションでも映画でもない全く新しい映像画集である。
