YesAsia Editorial Description

Prolific director Takashi Miike keeps finding new ways to test the boundaries of on-screen violence. Ichi the Killer is a masterful piece of filmmaking, simultaneously funny and horrific, but only suitable for viewers with strong stomachs.

One character, Kakihara (Asano Tadanobu), a masochistic yakuza lieutenant, has slits in his cheeks through which he blows cigarette smoke and gleefully hacks off his own tongue to apologize for his impudence. Then there is the eponymous assassin (Omori Nao), a painfully shy but sadistic young voyeur who wears a leather superhero outfit to work. Manipulated by the cagey and mysterious Jijii ("Gramps" - Tsukamoto Shinya), Ichi lashes out and massacres those Jijii deems bullies, and basically anyone else who upsets his frail psyche. Jijii uses the demented lad to start a bloody war between rival yakuza factions.

Miike's film is full of grotesquely over-the-top violent set pieces, including flying entrails, graphic mutilations, and even a severed human face splattered against a wall and slowly sliding to the ground. It is all captured with kinetic camerawork and hyperactive editing. It's not for everyone, but bolder viewers will find it uniquely entertaining.

ICHI!!!!!!!!!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie rocks!!! I think Miike Takashi did a great job with creating the characters from the manga come alive on the big screen. I must say the movie is not for everyone, due to its graphic violence throughout the movie. The only thing I was disappointed was that Kakihara was a bit mellow. If I remember correctly from the manga, Kakihara was a brutal savage. He was much more violent of a character in the manga than in the movie. Other than that, I really enjoyed this movie. There's plenty of dark humor involved, so sit back and enjoy this great flick!!!!

Hmmmmmm? I'm not SURE!??? Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I rate this film 10 for the simple fact that I found this film quite sick and weird but hysterically funny at the same time!
I am not a lover of this kind of violence towards women I did find that a bit disturbing, but I guess with it being based on a Manga comic that could explain this point. Although I have heard that this actually went further than the comic!
I thought that the way Ichi killed was a blast with those razor boots, would'nt want him to shave my legs!
I thought that Kakihara was strange but funny in a twisted sorta way! I loved the run up to the confrontation between Kakihara and Ichi, that was hysterical! Kakihara was getting so excited at the thought of finally getting to see this ICHI and lets face it Ichi was pretty nerdy looking!
My only complaint would be how sickening the violence was, but this is with reference to both the male and females being attacked, yuck.
Strange, I cannot settle in my mind whether the film was great or sick...I guess sick probably wins!
But it is strangely entertaining if...and i mean a BIG IF you can get past the sick stuff and enjoy the humour.
Please don't get mad at me as I am not someone who likes to see violence against women in any form. So, this is just my mixed up view of things,

Pass this movie or the food Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
This movie has no plot, lack character developments i.e and just confuse its own audience. Its just about the worst movie I've ever seen. The ending was just stupid and a five minute thought by the director. What the f happened there...... Kakihara didn't find the boss,Ichi gets manipulated by gramps throughtout the movie, ichi slaughtered the whole Anjo' gangs + karen, Ichi kills his brother & the nephew, gramps was hanged lets just say every one dies except Ichi. I fail to see the comedy and sympathize the characters and who the hell are they. There are not a looker in here but butt ugly peoples except Karen(paulyn sun), to be precise no female protagonist. Violence in movie is a good aspect in this movie but going overboard with the sadist, beating up prostitute, cutting genitals and other body parts is just gross. The director must be f up inside the head. Half of the movie just need "rape and porno" to support its storyline. There are too many decapitations and organs flying around, even the story lost me half way and I was wondering what is the point of this movie. I should say that this movie is not something your parent would want blasting on a big screen TV with digital surround. def 18 and up!
