ジェフが経営するアーカンソー州の農場へ、長男トムが５歳の息子ディランを連れて都会から戻ってきた。ジェフや弟のチャーリーは喜ぶが、彼らの町は露天掘り炭鉱会社のクラブツリーと悪徳議員ヒングルに狙われていた。クラブツリーに対して訴訟を起こしていたチャーリー夫婦が事故を装って殺され、トムは報復のために工事車両を爆破するが、保安官も丸め込んでいるクラブツリーはトムを逮捕し、強引に工事を進めて農民の家を破壊。さらにジェフたちへ有利な判決を下そうとした判事を殺した上、ジェフの家が放火され、馬を救おうとしたジェフは死ぬ。怒りに燃えたトムは、ついに単身クラブツリーの屋敷へ乗り込む！
