Returning from his highly acclaimed drama series Time Between Dog And Wolf, Korean heartthrob Lee Jun Ki stars in Iljimae, a fusion historical drama set during the Joseon dynasty that chronicles the life of a chivalrous robber known as "Iljimae". Unlike other outlaw heroes such as Robin Hood and Hong Gil Dong who were accompanied by a band of followers, Iljimae likes to play solo. Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Han Hyo Joo (Spring Waltz), Lee Young Ah (Golden Bride), and Park Si Who (What Planet Are You From?), this charming swashbuckler far exceeded the viewership ratings of Son Ye Jin's Spotlight and Kim Ji Soo's Woman of the Sun which competed in the same timeslot. Based loosely on the best-selling comic book by Ko Woo Young, the drama strikes a cool balance between comedy, action, and drama, working in plenty of offbeat humor (much of which comes from modern-day spoofs) and offering some genuine food for thoughts about love, family, and marriage.

Jaunty and fearless, Ryung (Lee Jun Ki) roams the market street by day and robs corrupt government officials by night, but his intentions are anything but malicious as he distributes the stolen goods to the poor struggling commoners. People call him "Iljimae", the faceless elusive hero who leaves a unique signature (a branch of a plum blossom tree) behind at every robbery scene. He's the most wanted man in the country, but that's not the only trouble he's facing. His storybook romance with government official's daughter Eun Chae (Han Hyo Joo) is soon discovered by the Imperial Guard who has held deep affection for Eun Chae for some time. And standing in his shadows is Bong Soon (Lee Young Ah), a jolly feisty swindler who would trade her life for his at any given minute.

朝鮮時代中期，有個活在百姓心中的俠盜，他就是一枝梅（李準基飾），他專門懲罰有錢有勢的貪官。由於不知道其來歷，他成為朝廷官員們最頭疼的罪犯，但同時也是窮困百姓們的希望。

勇兒8歲時目睹父親被殺，眼睜睜地看著父親死在自己眼前，但自己卻喊都沒喊出來。後來成為了鐵石家的養子，漸漸長成為一個小混混。偶然機會中對父親的死開始懷疑起來，而唯一的線索就是刺死父親的劍上的圖案，為了尋找到那把劍，勇兒成為了小偷，成為了江湖上盛名遠揚的一枝梅。

他與幼時偶然相識的施厚（朴時厚飾）、閤彩（韓孝珠飾）、丰純（李英雅飾）之間的愛、恨、情、仇，也將熱烈展開。

Lucky ..I did get the boxset..watched the drama 4 times already...great story line...its really funny but also
sad.... you're not going to regret buying this dvd boxset.Lee Jun Ki acting skill is getting better.

 Highly recommended! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Although it was addressed to SBS audience, "Iljimae" bears some strong qualities in the cinematography field. Undoubtedly the director did an excellent job -- especially the fighting scenes were some of the best seen on a TV series-- the actors gave a solid and at times extremely touching performance. The plot-line is also one of the best -- credits to the screen-writers here for the good job, considering they had had to create and work on a story of their own since the production company didn't manage to get the rights of the comic book's original story.

"Iljimae" bears all the elements and values we meet in the most period drama series/films: love, loss, avenge, honour, relations bound to endure and overcome the test of time, purpose and self-sacrifice.

Lee Moon Shik who plays the foster father of Iljimae/Yong/Lee Geom gives one of the best performances (one of the best developed characters).

Lee Jun Ki in the role of Iljimae/Yong/ Lee Geom proves --once again-- he is a truly talented actor, capable of playing a wide range and different roles. It seems his image as a handsome, pretty man has found a rival: his genuine acting talent.

A series worth-watching by everyone, whether fan or non-fan of the particular genre.

entertaining Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Though a bit silly at times, this is a good drama with a good story line. The adopted father - the petty thief is so touching he is sure to make you shed tears. He definitely deserves an Oscar. Once more Lee Jun Kee will not let you down. However I would prefer a better ending.
