One of Taiwan's most talented and versatile artists, Rene Liu has maintained a high level of popularity throughout her career. Honored with awards both as singer and actress, Rene possesses a degree in classical music, is adept in playing the piano, and is also a well-versed songwriter and composer. For her new album she has collaborated with other well-known artists of the music scene including Matilda Tao, Justin Chen, and Mayday's A Xin. Rene's title song I'm Fine (Track 1) also happens to be the image song for Taiwan's theatrical release of Hollywood production August Rush. The duet "Can't Tell Your Lover" (track 11) with Fan Wei Qi has also been included on Rene's new 11-track album.
This edition is limited to 5000 copies with a DVD featuring the music video of I'm Fine (approximately 20 minutes) and 3 music clips.

Sophisticated, rich and free

Although each of these signed copies of the "I'm Fine" album probably passed through Rene's hands faster than the hero's Super Lightening Hammer skill in RPG game Tales of Eternia, this packaged gem of superb songs should also be grabbed as lightening fast while you can, as Rene's albums seem to disappear quite quickly (and, look, a signed offering, too....we're spoiled, we really are), and this CD of Rene's is another great album! As with previous albums of Rene's rich and sophisticated singing, this also reaches some fine levels on the listening spectrum. You have here a really lovely and varied collection of feel good, gently romantic, self reflective and heart searching song renditions, but also in a quite up beat and soulful way, this time. Rene is in okay dude mode, right? Certainly Rene's velvety voice is as lovely as ever, and her smooth syncopated tones, paint a richly romantic feel that's partly endearing, solitary comforting and always having that air of mystery that is synonymous with her music. These optimistic and more gentler and buoyant melodies, additionally have a playful and quite pure hearted ballad-folk style, too. Like innocence re-visited. Its not altogether in the letting go of things, say of romantic memories, but songs about memories that broaden the outlook on life and its changes. (The one thing that also intrigues me about Rene, is that she seems similar in outlook on life to Korean actress Ba Doo Na). The mood does change a little by track 9's haunting piece, though, and features some haunting guitar echo tremor, but overall this album is a sound for uplifting hearts. So, as you probably guessed by now, a gem of an album - and recommend most definitely. If you're in that more softer ambiance mood - this also will be a great chill out CD to compliment. Good goose bumps and re-played tracks for me were 1, 7, 8 and the excellent track 11, although being a gentle and varied selection here (and most people getting more out of the lyrics than me!), different songs will certainly suit different people. And not one bad song here. Nothing really fast with Rene, but with RL you don't really require fast stuff! Although there are quite a number of Rene's CDs I haven't managed to hear yet, as pre-mentioned some of her albums are a bit difficult to obtain at the moment. But of the ones that I already have, I could certainly recommend all of these to be 5 star quality. So, if you have enjoyed this CD and wish to try more, look at Rene's albums "Harvest", ""Waiting for You" and "All Night Long". Some great and lovable chord melodies, there! Final note here, is that the last track 11, "Can't Tell Your Lover" with Fan Wei Qi, is one fantastic track (well for me, I guess) - and Twins fans, you know, if you read this you really ought to check this song out, as I'm positive that this is a song you guys will really love (unless you listen to Rene already, of course!). So, yes, "I'm Fine"......highly recommended! |
