阿慧是時代女性，她戀上有婦之夫阿華。阿華以家庭責任拒絕離婚，為了冷卻這段感情，阿慧答應父親，陪伴老傭人歡姑回鄉。歡姑是老一派的獨立女性，年輕時便自梳。兩人在人生觀、性觀點都各有不同。但阿慧發現歡姑年輕時亦同樣在愛情路上迷失過，還與另一個女人有關……四十年代的順德，自梳是一種時尚。意歡選擇了自梳，終身不嫁。但命運偏偏令她遇上兩個重要的人。一個是初戀情人旺成。他貧窮卻痴情，另一個是出身妓寨，嫁給絲廠老闆的八姨太太蝶環。意歡暗中與旺成交往，最後懷了孕。可是，旺成撇下意歡不理。唯有蝶環對她呵護備至令意歡深深感動，並知道自己一直幢憬的愛情，原來就在身邊。可惜戰爭來臨，兩人在逃難中失散……
A modern working girl Wai (Theresa Lee) accompanies her old maid Auntie Foon (Qua Ah Leh) back to her homeland. Auntie Foon is an independent woman from the old days. She combed up when she was young. Wai finds that Auntied Foon was once lost in love before. When Foon was young (Charlie Young), her first lover, Wang Cheng left her behind. Luckily a popular club singer Yu Wan (Carina Lau) took care of her. Foon was deeply moved and realized that the kind of true love which she had always been longing for....

| This is an unforgetable movie. I watched it many years ago and was really touched by it. The ending was so surprising. The kind of film that you want to watch it over and over again. |

(Just a brief note-that there were a quite a few reviews about this movie a few months ago-but they were all deleted.) It is an excellent movie-about war-torn China and two women of different social status who become close friends and then "intimates." There are a lot of flashbacks from the present to the past which makes it at times choppy and annoying but it's still a beautiful love story. It's touching how they sacrifice for each other, such as Wah (Carina Lau) spending her life savings to save Foon's(Charlie Yeung) life and Wah giving up the chance to go to America so as not to be separated from Foon. We're talking about true love, that decades later, they are both still hoping for a reunion. Get out your hankies...if we all had true love like this... |

Intimates is a story about Wah (Carina Lau) and Foon (Charlie Yeung)that starts out as a friendship which is cemented by their kindness towards each other. The sacrifices and hardships that they endure for each other can only be defined as true love. Their story from the past is intertwined with the present as Wah searches for her lover, Foon, who might possibly be lost at sea on a capsized ship. I enjoyed this movie because no matter how difficult life was, these two women survived because they loved each other. Who would give up their life savings or a chance to come to America? That is TRUE LOVE, no matter how you slice it. |

Incredible, moving and joyful.
| Intimates is a movingly acted, gorgeously shot,and beautifully scripted movie. Unforgettable and touching, it centres on the love between Yihuan and Yuhuan and the various travails they go through for each other. Charlie Yeung is vivacious and utterly charming as the wise ingenue Yihuan. Carina Lau convincingly plays the bold, worldlywise Yuhuan. Their acting and chemistry together is truly natural and u forget this is a movie 10 mins into the film. This is the film you won't regret watching. |
