警察の“いぬ”は誰なのか！？ 男たちの運命を狂わせる復讐の銃弾強盗の罪で服役中に、妻を何者かに殺害されたモーリス（セルジュ・レジアニ）。出所後、彼は新たに出会った恋人テレーズの世話を受けながら日々を送っていた。ある日、彼は仲間のジルベールの紹介で、ある屋敷へ強盗に入る計画を立てる。だがそんな矢先、妻殺しの犯人が実はジルベールだったことが発覚。モーリスはジルベールに容赦のない銃弾を浴びせる。翌日、モーリスは、当初の予定通り金庫破りの道具を友人シリアン（ジャン＝ポール・ベルモンド）に調達してもらい、仲間のレミと共に強盗計画を実行する。ところが、犯行の最中に突然警察が現れたため、やむなく２人は逃走。結局レミは撃ち殺され、モーリスだけが逃げのびる。誰かが警察にタレこんだのではないか？モーリスは、計画を事前に知っていたシリアンを疑い、彼への復讐を決意するが…。
