I like it Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
To be honest, I am not even a Kung Fu action fan. I saw this movie simply because I heard that it was a very popular
movie. I have to say, I was captivated by the action and the story. . I don't really know anything about Ip Man and I don't know how
accurate the movie is but it is a good story . It makes me respect Ip Man but mostly it makes me realize what a
horrible time it was . I probably will never waste food again ,after seeing Ip Man took the bloody bag of rice to
the family of the dead person.

Great Movie - bad quality Blu-Ray Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
This is one of the best Kung-fu movies I have ever seen. Some of the historical facts are a little shady (as to be expected) but the story is pretty good, the action is fantastic, and it's definitely one of the best examples of Wing Chun on film. I highly recommend watching this... but, maybe not on Blu-Ray.

Sadly, the Blu-Ray transfer is one of the worst I have ever seen. Lots of blocking/compression artifacts and very grainy. It's a real shame. I have not seen the DVD version, but I recommend purchasing that copy instead and saving your money. Also, the special features are not subtitled. Bummer.

Once again, AMAZING MOVIE!!!!! Crummy Blu-Ray transfer. :(

Get the DVD.

Donnie Yen at the top of his game Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
What happen when you put the best kung fu actor of the 2000's ( Donnie Yen ) and the legendary Sammo Hung with a great real life story on a Wing chun master: you have what I think is the period kung fu film since 1994's Fist of legend and Drunken Master 2!!! I thought that fearless was good but this one in incredible. The story, acting and the fights are top notch. Can't wait for the sequel with Sammo stepping in front of the camera to fight Donnie.!!!

Ip Man - what a legend Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I'm certain 100% of Wing Chun practitioners or even other martial arts practitioners would enjoy this movie as much as us. Sammo Hung delivered some great action choreography (especially during the challenge between Donnie and 'new kid on the block' bully Fan Sui Wong). Watch the hand reflexes! Glad the close-ups plus slow-mo allowed us to appreciate the action. I'm sure the script is very close to form as Ip Man's son served as consultant in this movie and would not have wanted anything out of exaggeration.

Jet Li would have done a great job too but to be honest, although not a Donnie Yen fan (cause he seems to carry a little air of arrogance, sorry), I did enjoy this movie as this was one of his better performances (the last was Iron Monkey). Mesmerising action choreography (well done Sammo), good supporting cast, realistic setting and haunting music brought forth to life the story of a quiet achiever and the art of Wing Chun.

I only hope that the prequel or sequel, whichever it may be, do justice to this great art form and to the man himself, Ip Man . (i.e. no side-tracking or go off the rails with Hollywood ideas).

Donnie Yen as IP MAN Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I've been a long time Donnie Yen fan and I must say this is one of his best kung fu movie ever...
I've not seen a kung fu movie this good in a very long time... I guess the movie industires are becoming
so modernize or americanize... the fighting choreography was so good that I can't believe it made my eyes
pop out and it just made me want to see more... Donnie Yen is by far one of the greatest martial art actor
a side from Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Donnie never fell to wow me on how good his acting and martial art is... They picked the right person to play IP MAN... Donnie deliver the roll to it's best... I so recommand this
movie to anyone who's a Donnie Yen fan or martial arts fan.

One of the best movies from Hong Kong Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The movie is very good for many reasons.

First of all - martial arts action is outstanding. You won't see silly unrealistic jumps but pure artistic fight made believable. Excellent choreography, something that you can also see in action movies with Tony Jaa.

Second - dramatic presentation and cinematography. This is a moving inspirational drama depicting the period of Japanese invasion to China. After watching you would feel you want to change. Dialogues, actor's play, colors, costumes and angle shots - everything makes me remember this story and reconsider my own life. It has been long time since I have seen such well-made cinema.

Third - film music. There will be a lot of sorrow erhu tunes combined with cello and orchestra. Magnificent.

Ip Man Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Wing chun has a pretty big following here in the UK and there has been a bit of a buzz going around martial artists who had heard that Donnie Yen was going to be in a film based on Ip Man. I have to say that in the past I always preferred Jet Li and Jackie Chan films to Donnie Yen, but of late his choice of films are now putting him on par with the latter two. This film is one of Donnie Yen's strongest and his versatility as a martial artist shows. I hope that when it gets a general UK release that the subtitles are sorted out as there were some mistakes, but by that time I was fully engaged by the film so I just went with them. The martial arts is well paced out. There are some real martial artists with skills in this film and I also liked that even though the world knows that Ip Man went on to be Bruce Lee's Wing Chun Sifu, the film remained about Ip Man. If they were to make another film about Ip Man I would like to see more about him in his younger years and how he became so good.

A modern myth is born Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
"Ip Man" may not bear much resemblance to the real life of its hero, but as an exercise in eye-popping, bone-crushing martial arts mastery it is a smashing success. Donnie Yen stars as Ip Man, a wealthy Foshan resident renowned for his great skill in wing chun wushu. The film depicts Foshan in the 1930s as a city of great affluence in which many of the local people like to devote their free time to practicing fighting skills in the city's many martial arts schools. Fan Sui-Wong gives an Elvis Tsui-like performance as a crude, bullying bruiser from northern China who comes to Foshan to gain wealth by establishing himself as the premier martial artist. However, he didn't count on encountering someone like Ip Man! A classic confrontation between the great fighters ensues. Just when it appears that order has been restored in Foshan, the even more brutal Japanese take over. The Japanese occupiers like to hone their fighting skills by taking on the best local fighters; if the Chinese fighter wins, he is given a small bag of rice, a treasured commodity in the suddenly downtrodden community. These martial arts matches set in motion the inevitable showdown between Ip Man and the commander of the Japanese occupiers (Ikeuchi Hiroyuki).

Enormous care was taken to recreate Foshan in the 1930s and, as a consequence, the film looks gorgeous. Equal care was taken in the choreography of the movie's many fight scenes. They truly are spectacular. Donnie Yen has never been better than he is in this role. His subdued, controlled performance and lightning-quick moves create a new iconic hero that rivals Jet Li's performances as Wong Fei Hung. Many of the minor roles are beautifully played. Simon Yam as a factory owner and Lam Ka-Tung as a police officer-turned interpreter are particular stand-outs. Special mention must be made of Xiong Dai Lin who, in her first movie role, creates an indelible impression as Ip Man's elegant yet intrepid wife.

Don't look to "Ip Man" for a realistic story or for psychological insights into what drove scion of a wealth family to become a disciplined martial artist of exquisite skill. Instead, enjoy "Ip Man" for the rousing, action-packed, patriotic, hero-making vehicle that it is and you will be richly rewarded. Very highly recommended.
