Featuring 55 titles over 4 discs, the Japanese Anime Classic Collection is a compilation of rarely seen silent animated films from Japan made in the 1920s and the 1930s. Now fans and scholars alike can witness some of the first animated films in existence in the best quality possible. Also for the first time, the silent films feature live narration by legendary benshi (live narrators) Sawato Midori and Makino Shuichi. The collection also includes "record talkies", animated films with a soundtrack played separately on a record while the film was projected. Those records have now been synchronized with the film to recreate the way the films were seen at the time.
