Chen Daoming from Heroes and Infernal Affairs III returns with a stirring TV drama about triads in early republican China. He teams up with Mainland Chinese top actress Tao Hong whose performances in Life Show and Beyond Our Ken have earned her great applause. Filled with tension and suspense, Jasmine (a.k.a. Jasmine Tears) revolves around three big families in southern China, competing for the name of "China's Best Tea" so as to boost their own tea business. The Gongsun family wins, but their triumph does not last long as triad leader Gu Zhaotang (Chen Daoming) hires assassins to kill the whole clan. Only Gongsun Lei and his younger sister manage to escape, and vengeance becomes their only purpose in life from that point on. Opera singer Qingyu (Tao Hong), originally Gu Zhaotang's mistress, falls in love with Gongsun Lei and decides to help him take revenge.
