February 19, 2006 Very Cool Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Nanase is a J-Rock girl! Although this concert is not an Ayumi or BoA extravagance, it is GOOD, solid rock! Her band is awesome and she's a great talent. She puts so much realness and emotion into everything she sings. I could watch her encore song over and over; it's so heartfelt and beautiful, especially when she comes close to crying.

    February 19, 2006 A Falling Star? Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
To be fair, I bought this concert with Ayumi's "My Story" and BoA's "Best of Soul" but I was very disappointed. It would seem that Namie's popularity is on the wane and you could tell by the so-so nature of the main set and the production values of the entire concert. As an example during "Can you Celebrate" Namie's voice is practically drowned out by the band. I don't blame her but I do blame the producers of this video. Also in comparison to Ayumi and BoA, this concert was repetitive and bland -- not befitting someone who was Japan's reigning pop diva. Given Namie's big hits I think she deserves better. She can dance and she can sing and she is sweet! Hopefully her next concert will do more to support and showcase her talents. This one did not.

  • February 19, 2006 A Very Impressive Concert Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I was extremely impressed with this concert. From the very first note, one realizes that this concert is primarily about Misia's powerful vocal ability.

Every song is beautifully and powerfully sung. Even if one turned away from the TV and just listened to the songs, one would be impressed. However, the producers included some very cool visuals including the "cloud" piano for "Holy Hold Me" and a "travelling" stage that moves into the audience, while Misia rides atop of it, for some other songs.

The dancers were only okay and Misia's costumes are an acquired taste if not distracting at times, but I am so impressed with what I saw and heard that I am considering buying a dvd to send to my relatives in Japan. I think it will be a nice treat for them.

You might wonder if this concert is better than Misia at Sapporo Dome. Yes and no. They are very similar but I think this concert is more about the songs than about spectacular sets and effects. I like them both, however.

February 19, 2006 Ayumi Watch Out! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I was very impressed with this concert. Although the sets are not as visually appealing as Ayumi's "My Story", Boa's vocals are very good and the songs are fun, especially her ballads. She and her dancers look hip and current but retain a strong Asian presence and identity that was appealing to me. I felt that I was definitely watching an Asian pop star, not an Asian pop star trying to be Western.

After my first viewing I felt the concert was somewhat redundant, but the more I rewatched, the more I realized how delightful BoA really is. She's definitely going to give Ayumi a run for her money in terms of popularity.

I'd hope that in the future the concert producers do more visually with the sets, as one sees in Ayumi's "My Story"

February 6, 2006 This Concert is Only Okay Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
This concert certainly had great potential. The sets really are AMAZING but ultimately I was disappointed by the overwrought costumes and sappy story telling. From a Western viewpoint the costumes were silly and distracting -- only Ayumi's were for the most part pretty good, but the male dancers looked childish and immature. One in particular, who seemed to be the lead, had a spikey hair do reminiscent of the 80s and during one song Ayumi and her dancers were wearing day glo spatterd costumes, which reminded me of Cindy Lauper way back when! If I showed most of this concert to my friends, they'd think it was a joke!
The Arena Tour would have been vastly better had it shed its Broadway costumes, over acted dramaticism and quirky Japanese eccentricities.
On the other hand, the encore was refreshing. Gone were the kookie costumes and acting and we are left with Ayumi as sweet, cute and REAL. Even her dancers looked cool once they shed their "stage clothes."
Please, Ayumi, get a hold of Madonna's Re-Invention tour to understand what COOL is.
If one compares Madonna's 18th century costume opening (Vogue) in her Re-Invention tour with Ayumi's 18th century costume opening, the point will be clearly made.
