Just Beautiful
|
Just Beautiful! No more words for this fantastic album... I was impacted when i hear to sing this girls, really nice, and the other comment (there's no problem ;) ) is false or too radical... But I hear the album one and once and once, and I really like it... Well, 11 of 14 songs are my really favorites songs... Finally, I say, If you can, buy this album, you're not going away to regret!!! |

Has it escaped everyone...
| It amazes me that all the wonderful reviews of this "Jewelry breaks into the Japanese music scene with a masterpiece" fail to notice that out of the 14 tracks on the album, TEN are all direct copies (same music score and words) of U-ka Saegusa in db II songs! U-ka even wrote them herself, and most are featured on HER recent 2004 release. Only 4 songs are by someone else, and they clash with the style of U-ka in that they are more Jewerly-esque R&B songs and U-ka is rock. While the album is entertaining, it is needlessly redundant to those of us who already have U-ka's CDs. When I first played the CD I was shocked to hear the very first song and had to check the CD to be sure it wasn't U-ka...I knew I'd heard the song quite frequently and soon I knew why (I looked at the credits). It's also frustrating to hear the band struggle with the language. Even to my American ears, I can tell they are not singing Japanese well. Even their English is better! So, nice attempt Jewerly...but here's my advice: stick to your own songs, continue in the rock genre rather than R&B/jazz and learn better Japanese. All that said, this album IS pretty in that the ladies harmonize quite well and seem to be having a grand time recording this new venture. The songs are perkier than U-ka's versions...but not because they re-worked anything at all, rather, it's simply a result of having 4 singers as opposed to only 1. My favorite track is #5, but that is an U-ka favorite of mine and I love any and all incarnations of it! My least favorite is track #4...their English is flawless (better than the Japanese, actually), but the music is juvenile and very, very jazz sounding and does not keep the flow of the CD. So, if you want a nice pleasant CD with wonderful songs and don't already adore and love U-ka better (face it, she IS better...especially her vocals and ennunciation of what is HER native language), then you will delight in this. It's up-beat and well-produced and the girls can carry a tune (even if they can't always pronounce the words). BUT, please...someone somewhere give the ultimate credit where it is due: to U-ka for her songs (which she wrote and recorded herself). Oh, and another note to Jewerly: if you are going to copy someone's songs, wait longer than less than a year to do so. By then people won't remember the originals too much to compare. Right now, U-ka's CD is so new a comparision is impossible to avoid...and Jewerly is left lacking. As a start though, one can hope with some help on originality that Jewerly will continue in the Japanese market. This CD stylistically is far superior to ALL their Korean works combined. I like the rock sound (again, because of U-ka, who they copied note for note) better than their Korean staple releases of R&B tinged with jazz. These girls are too young and vibrant for R&B or jazz at all. Let them shine...and on their own merits. Then one can say that Jewerly has ARRIVED on the Japanese market. |
