Tale of Cinema

June 25, 2006 Zoom?We are talking about the same movie? In the one I have watched the camera almost doesn't move... About the meaning of the story, it talks about the things that work in the movies not necessarily work in the real life. The story is clearly divided in two parts: we think the first one is real until we discover in fact is a cinema tale. But this cinema tale is based on a real story (the personal story of a friend of the director when he was very young). In the second part, we know this friend, the real person: the years have passed and the director of that movie is very ill, almost dying. His old classmates in the cinema school, now in their thirties, meet each other again for trying to collect some money for helping to pay the hospital bill. That young boy who was the main character in the first part is now a strange man without success and not very welcome for his old friends. He meets the actress who played the main female character in that movie some years ago and he explains to her that his common friend, the director, in fact got the idea for the script from his intimate experience with a girl in the room of a hotel (the place they chose for trying to commit suicide together). In some way he falls in love with the actress and he tries to repeat that experience with her. But of course this is the real life and it doesn't work, maybe it's a romantic idea for making a movie but in the real life it's only a fool idea from a man with a psychological problem.
One virtue of this film is that the main character is played by different actors in the two parts but the girl is the same actress. Also we have a nice soundtrack, good acting and a slow but interesting story about human relations. The sex scenes are not really necessary but they won't disturb you if you are a little open minded. This is usual in Korean cinema, maybe because for Korean the sex is a natural part of the life.
A good movie.
