YesAsia Editorial Description

A cast of recognizable Hong Kong actors takes center stage in the action-packed fantasy epic Journey Of The Doomed. When the existence of the Emperor's illegitimate daughter is discovered in a popular brothel, various factions vie to use her as a pawn in their power games. The Emperor's brother (Tony Leung Ka Fai in an early role) hires a group of knights (including Max Mok and Candice Yu) to capture the girl, but the Emperor hires his own team (including Alex Man and Kara Wai Ying Hung) to make sure she's dead! The brothel is razed by the assassins, but the girl escapes, and enters into the protection of a fisherman (future action director Tong Wai), who soon falls in love with the girl. Meanwhile, the two teams of assassins have their own problems, including a romantic entanglement between the opposed Alex Man and Candice Yu. It all comes down to a final battle between all involved, with the fate of the girl and the Emperor's throne in the balance! Directed by Cha Cheun Yi (In the Line of Duty 5), Journey Of The Doomed is an entertaining and even sexy epic from the Shaw Brothers studios!

Not so Bad Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I am fortunate enough to watch the original version. It is not so bad for first one hour.Acting of the most characters are unnatural. Constumes like Amazons or Roman. However first half was entertaining and romantic.

Actress Fu Yin Yu was attractive, youthful and innocent. Sadly her movie career was so short with only this movie. She deserve to get a better script and director. She is sexier and cuter than Chen Ping, Ai Ti or Lily Ho. Ohter actress Regena Kent (a deaf girl character) passed away a few years ago.

There are similarities between this movie and Japanese movie called as No Body (1983) in English. The main character was princess and many people tried to assisanate her. She was unluck in the whoel movie. However that movie has happy ending. Second half of chinese movie was unorganised and wasting flim. May be it was shot in sunset era of the Shaw Bros.

This movie is more steamy than other historical chinesse movie. Only one movie acted by Fu Yin Yu in 1985. I do not wish Shaw movie fans to miss out.

Much better uncensored Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I managed to get my hands on the Hong Kong dvd and this movie is so much better uncensored. That is because some key scenes were shot with the lead stars naked and all these important scenes are missing in my Malaysian & Singaporean vcd. This affected the flow of the movie, the pacing & also the plot. Now that I have seen the uncut version, I feel obligated to post a more positive review of the movie. Shaws' traditional production values are still missing in this new wave film. The leads are dressed as Japanese fighters rather than Chinese knights but if you accept this, the movie does have a fairly interesting plot particularly in the first 30 minutes of the movie when there was Tony Leung & Hui Ying Hung to carry the movie. Once the hero Tung Wei met the heroine, the movie goes downhill.

For Shaw bros. fanatics only Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I totally agree with the first reviewer from Malaysia. This movie is very boring. The only good thing in this movie is the mandarin theme song.

Journey of the doomed Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
This movie is definitely a flop despite the great cast. Probably it could be due to the poor director...

Boring.....yawn Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
This movie is so new-wave that despite being set in ancient China, you have pop songs and very mod costumes. The movie starts promisingly with a plot but soon grinds to a halt. A love scene between the leads is obviously censored as the song in the background is also cut abruptly. Censored prints seem to be the norm with Celestial releases nowadays. It got so boring that I was waiting for the movie to end. I bought the movie to watch Hui Ying Hung but she was killed off early in the movie leaving behing uncharismatic leads like Yu On On and Max Mok. This movie is so bad it has come back to haunt them on its rerelease.
