Death at the DMZ
Death at the DMZ

"JSA" is an exciting, if uneven, film about an investigation into the deaths of two North Korean soldiers at Korea's DMZ. Although entirely different in subject matter, the structure of the movie is remarkably similar to Norman Jewison's superb film, "A Soldier's Story". Lee Byung Hun commands the screen as an impulsive young South Korean sergeant who reaches out to befriend two North Korean border guards who had saved his life when he became lost during a patrol. Song Kang Ho brilliantly portrays his older, more stable North Korean counterpart. This heart-warming relationship ultimately explodes in a shocking culmination driven by military duty and political tensions. Lee Young Ae, who later became Asia's darling for her star turn in the "Dae Jang Geum" TV series, plays the lead investigator, an underwritten role that primarily serves as a device to move the story forward. The attempt to give her character a background story about her father is a confusing, but blessedly brief, distraction. I wholeheartedly recommend "JSA" as a taut thriller that offers enduring insights into our human nature. |

This is one of the rariest movies you must not fail to watch. Wonderfully done, good actors and very nice story. The story is about soldiers of north and south korea who happened to be good friends. Dont's fail to watch this one. Worth every minute. |

This was the first Korean movie I saw and was thuroughly impressed by the quality of action, drama, and story line. It stars young Lee Young Ae who was later popularized by the TV series 'Dae Jang Geum'. It's an excellent suspense movie. I highly recommend it. |

As a fan of Lee Byung Hun, I watched this movie, never expecting it to end the way it did. I continue to be impressed by the range of emotions he can show in a movie. The male leads did an outstanding job and showed how even in war, friendships are formed. Unfortunately, Lee Young Ae's performance was quite weak and did nothing to enhance this movie. I recommend it highly but be prepared for a hard ending. |

Excellent Movie!
|
This movie really made me cry and I felt really touched! The story is not very complex, but it has many meanings. The entire case did a supreb job! For those who wanted to know if there are english subtitles are not...the answer is YES. The subtitles are a bit small, but you can still read them. The quality of the picture is not bad compare to DVD. Overall, if this movie is a must that everyone should see!!! |

Not bad

This drama is quite a bit removed from the love story Korean dramas I normally purchase. I wanted to view something more substantial--something that sampled Korean history. In that respect, this drama did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the "earthy" humor and language. My take on this film is that brotherhood exists at the core of both Koreas, and the possibility of unification nothing but a pipe dream as long as one side refuses to be consumed by the other. Somebody out there please explain the ending? Did it have anything to do with the return of the cigarette lighter? Or the realization of who really shot Jung first? |

THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!
|
JSA is one of the first few Korean movies I saw, and I can honestly tell you that it literally aroused a new addiction in me - Korean Cinema! I would rate this movie MORE THAN 10 if that scale is available, unfortunately, 10 is the best I am allow to give this movie... But that tells you how good this movie is. It is not just simply good, it's better than good. JSA tells the story of love and friendship between men in a very genuine and artistic way but yet seems very realistic. It sends the message that people should not AND could not be divided into North and South as long as there is love and friendship harvested in each and every single individual. JSA is the combination of excellent acting, flawless storyline and superb directing. This movie is simply not to miss! |

This is a great film... I can't believe how much I loved it. Honestly I wasn't going to buy it but i took a chance and bought it. I'll never regret watching it as the movie was wonderfully produced, acted and the story was told to perfection. A master piece of asian cinema. A Tragic story that will touch all who watch it |

greatest korean movie!
|
This movie is a must buy! The script is extremely well written and the majority of the cast performances surpassed standards. The two male leads ware acted very persuasively; the female however was rather stiff. The underlying story is more than one can anticipate just by reading the synopsis of the movie. The theme and motif of the movie is so strong that itll keep you thinking about it for days to come. Although Im not Korean, this movie still touched me deeply. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone! |
