YesAsia Editorial Description
Produced by Stephen Chow and helmed by Stephen Fung (House of Fury), zero-to-hero dance comedy Jump is famous for being the movie that got shelved and then reshot after original lead actor Edison Chen's fall from grace. What it should be remembered for though is the luminous performance by leading lady Kitty Zhang (CJ7). In the vein of all great rom-com heroines, Zhang is awkward, funny, and thoroughly lovable as a country mouse who travels to the big city to pursue her dancing dreams. Singapore stud Leon Jay Williams (La Robe De Mariee Des Cieux) brings his idol-drama image to the silver screen as the Prince Charming of the story, while Samuel Pang, Fama, and Daniel Wu pitch in supporting and cameo appearances. From the colorful side characters to the inspirational dancing, Jump often recalls the earnest humor and goofy charm of Stephen Chow's underdog comedies, making the film a fun and crowd-pleasing watch from start to finish.
Happy-go-lucky aspiring dancer Phoenix (Kitty Zhang) lives in the countryside with her father, but she's got her eyes set on farther places. Jumping at the chance to move to shiny Shanghai, she makes ends and dreams meet by working as a janitor at an elite dance studio where she picks up dance moves on the sly. Even with her unfailing spirit, things aren't easy for Phoenix working two jobs and putting up with the mockery from city folks. Enter her knight in shining armor, CEO and studio owner Ron (Leon Jay Williams), who sweeps her off her feet and gives her a spot on the dance team. But is simple-hearted Phoenix ready for the complicated turns of big city love and professional dancing?

Director: Stephen Fung
JUMP is a film about courage and passion. Full of humor and exciting dance sequences the film features a young village girl from a sheltered background named Phoenix who loves dancing. Brought up by her father, a Kung Fu Master, after the death of her mother, Phoenix has been trained in martial arts but her real dream is to be a dancer. When Phoenix is offered the chance to work in a big city, she jumps at it, and leaves her father and hometown for Shanghai. While working in a garment factory by day, Phoenix still retains her dream of one day dancing on stage. She takes a part time job at night at a local dance school in order to secretly learn the techniques. Seen as an unsophisticated country girl in the big city, Phoenix puts up with a lot of teasing but she perseveres.
When Phoenix meets Ron, a rich and handsome playboy, and the owner of the dance school, Ron recognizes her talent and passion for dance and offers Phoenix a chance to study for free. She is also invited to join the dance competition that the school is participating in. Despite his reputation, Phoenix becomes romantically involved with Ron, but right before the competition; she has second thoughts about him, and makes a decision that may change her future forever. Only her father can make her realize what her next step must be…

I love this story. There is a moral lesson too. This is a story of a country girl of dream of going to the city and explore her chance of a good life. And he met a business tycoon who sponsors a dance competition. I love everything in it. Its a light love story. |
