葛蘭被譽為「最會演戲的女明星」，身為電懋當家花旦之一，《六月新娘》當然不會令觀眾失望。她飾演的汪丹林陪伴父親由日本返港，預備與青梅竹馬的愛人結婚，卻因為一點小風波，險些白白斷送了大好姻緣。張愛玲的劇本一如以往的細膩，人物豐富、立體，描寫女性心理固然到家，男角也不流於陪襯，每個角色的背後似乎都隱藏不少故事有待發掘。演員一貫表現稱職，尤其是喬宏的「老粗」形象甚為搶鏡。有葛蘭當然少不了歌舞，三首插曲各有味道，值得細意品嘗。
June Bride is a great musical drama starring wonderful Grace Chang and handsome Chang Yang. Audience will be brought to a new dimension of Grace's versatility, and her graphic portrayal of a young bride being caught under the cross fire of conflicting emotions. Her beautiful and well trained voice will no doubt provide to her fans the greatest possible entertainment. The movie becomes even more enjoyable with Eileen Chang's sarcastic script. A brilliant supporting cast including Roy Chiao, Tien Ching and Liu En-chia highlighted the golden era of MP&GI in the 50s and 60s.

Uneven romantic comedy
| "June Bride" is a diverting film with some catchy songs, comical scenes, and engaging performances (particularly from the actress who plays the nightclub girl and the actor who plays Ge Lan's father). For a screwball comedy of this nature to work, the script must take idiosyncratic but believable human behavior and magnify it to ridiculous proportions. For me, "June Bride" failed to engage because the behavior of the central characters too often seemed unconvincing. Nonetheless, I can recommend this film to Cathay film buffs for the undeniable charm of its cast. |
