July 26, 2010 Feel Good Summer Vibes... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
With a line-up of several prominent composers and new faces, this feline theme album does bring out several tracks with feel good summer vibes that are tailor-made for her. Kicking off with Track 1 is a Bossa nova composition that truly radiates the summer breeze and sandy beaches. She seems to have a feat in performing this music genre with her mellow voice that subtly brings out a more comfy rendition as opposed to the original by Tina Chu (the composer). However, I have a preference for the Mandarin cover (Track 11) instead as it sounds more appealing to the ear. Track 10 is yet another cover song in the album, a remake after the late Danny Chan’s “Draw a Rainbow”. Packed with different music arrangement, this version mellifluously serenades a breezier tune that simply goes well with the summer mood.

She croons her way through a heart-rending Track 2 with overtones of sadness, melancholically depicting the story of ceaseless adoration by a couple. In contrast, Track 6 ventures into a thought-provoking side by advising women to remain stoic in facing the harshest conditions of forsaken love. Credit must be given to G.E.M. who beautifully composed this awe-inspiring tune that oozes a transcendental harmonious flavor. Track 3 and 8 are both from the same composer. On the first hearing, they sounded pretty similar. Nevertheless, both melodies are equally soothing and lovely, refreshingly unpretentious with her angelic vocals. Track 5 is one of the highlights of this album. Then again, I have a fondness towards the Mandarin counterpart (Track 12). Although this number is slightly slow-paced, its simple yet nifty guitar background makes it a sentimental mush not-to-be-missed.

Track 4 and 7 are the only tracks that are considered sprightly and rhythmic. While the former emanates a cheerful and exuberant blend of pop rock, the latter plays off a lively, whimsical beat, in which both are palatable and sheer entertaining. Last but not least, one of my favorites in this album, Track 8, a commendable soft rock penned down by herself, carrying an infectious and meaningful lyric telling us to treasure things that we own and the people around us. It does not require a powerful vocal to deliver these impressionable tunes. Her crisp and ever-affectionate crooning has put her on gaining ground in vocal performance over the past years. If you are looking for easy listening ballads and some adult contemporary pop songs, do check it out at your next visit to the music store.

    May 10, 2009 ~The Gift~ Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
A year after the release of her previous mandarin album, "love song for myself", this much anticipated album, "the gift" has finally surfaced. As usual, she never failed to engage in good music, putting her best foot in to give the best for her ardent fans.

The album starts off with the sweet-sounding and heart-warming title track, her own composition, which of course, truly reflects her forte in serenading heart-rending ballads. Tailing back is Track 3, a melancholic song that simply melts my heart away as she croons her way forlornly, making lamentations about love. Track 4 and 11 is quite jaunty and pacy, but I have a preference over the latter. The only thing commendable to put on for Track 4 is the string of song titles from her previous efforts to be placed inside the lyrics, which is surprising and make it rather extraordinary. Track 11 captivates me with its refreshing uplifting tune that makes you want to sing along, clap your hands and tap your feet to the sound of it.

After a stress-out evening, Track 5 may just be the perfect relaxing piece as it takes you along to a place of beauty and tranquility. Track 7 - "abcdefGG", the title was pretty attractive with its bouncy and rhythmic tune that really gives me feel good vibes. Same goes to Track 9, her rendition on this song is once again a manifestation of a versatile singer that can venture into any genre of music. The exuberant and lively beat just keeps buzzing in my head on and on. Track 8 which happens to be the soundtrack for the movie "give love", provides another inspiring yet charming tune that tells about dedicating and cherishing one's love whole-heartedly, and is simply pleasant to the ears with her mellifluous vocal. Ensuing Track 9 is Track 10, which is a first collaboration between Gigi and the talented Malaysian lad, Rynn Lim. The result - a beautiful sentimental piece that blends perfectly with the lyrics declaring the hopeless infatuation for love.

Finally, do listen out for the beautiful musical tunes as they simply matches with the concept of this album. The most notable thing about this album is her involvement in the whole production, from music down to art direction and definitely kudos must be given for all the efforts. Without doubt, this is a must-have and will probably be the BEST GIFT ever to own!!

December 23, 2006 love songs for you & me Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This album undeniably seems to be a much-awaited one judging from voting from polls and comments from ardent fans. So, what surprises is she bringing in after an agonising break-up of a 7-year relationship? The answer lies within this album. With a line-up of famous composers and songwriters, this album provides a variety of pop and sentimental songs, right from the title track till the last number.

The opening of the album, Track 1, moans over the pain, the distress and the difficulties when dealing with a love relationship. Her plaintive voice sang it all, in a soulful and mournful way. This radio-friendly and karaoke-able track has an MV that touches the heart of many people. So, do look out for it.
Next track is vibrant and exuberant, with a fusion of pop and R&B. This up-beat number was voted fans' favourite and indeed listening to it gets me head over heels, liven up my evening mood.

Jay Chou lends a hand at composing Track 3, which is the Mandarin cover of her previous Cantonese version, carrying the same title. This version sounds softer and gentler compare to the more intensified Cantonese version, though there hasn't been much changes in the tune.
Track 4 is a sad, melancholic tune that laments about lost love and life without love. It is slow-tempo; yet harness the forlorn and helpless part of a love life.

Bouncing off to Track 5 gives me goose bumps. Sounds brisk and lively, this number makes me disappear into its jaunty yet rhythmic musical arrangements music. It is quite interesting that she ventures into new genre leaving the listeners a fresh impression.
Track 6 is intense and powerful. A bluesy rock song. It simply harbours her impressive vocal performance, having learnt that this is quite a difficult track to tackle. Her singing skill does improve by leaps and bounds.

Moving on to Track 7 that is both melodious and soothing to the ear. Her angelic voice oozes this ballad beautifully and mellifluously.
Track 8 leads to another heartfelt tune not-to-be-missed. It has quite inspiring and heart-breaking lyrics and the tune is simply moving enough to melt your heart.

Wafting on to Track 9 takes you wandering about in the little mind of yours… In other words, daydreaming. Her forte at performing folksy beats, brings out this mesmerizing and relaxing number.
She croons her way to this last track that is accompanied by the pleasing sound of piano as its background music. It is simple yet exudes the song in a sombre mood, making a perfect ending for this album.

The only missing part of this album is her composition, maybe her next album, as I shall wait for it. Meanwhile, I will let myself enjoy and indulge in this love-entitled album and dedicate these wonderful love songs to everybody, well, and myself!!!

    August 14, 2006 kudos... a great album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It is rather difficult not to fall in love with this album. Well, plenty reasons for it, I’ll just summarize it to three. Firstly, a diversity of tunes; secondly, an alteration in vocal performance; thirdly, an album that truly reflects her maturity and to regain her self-confidence after her break-up. Of all the albums produced, this is probably the best Cantonese album.

Kicking off with Track 1, which is the album’s title. Simple-sounding tune with strong acoustic guitar background, refreshing and unpretentious voice really cherish the mood. The lyrics are inspiring too, making a great head start. The infamous Track 2, the title track that is her first collaboration with Jay Chou, speaks up the heart-felt wishes of many forlorn individuals suffering from break-ups. This light-hearted and not too R&B intensified number is quite an encouraging song telling people to be strong and stoic.

Moving on to Track 3 changes the mood to a more relaxing one. Her sweet crooning harbours the bluesy feeling of the mesmerizing jazzy tune. To indulge in this song is just a perfect remedy to an all-stressed evening. Bouncing off to Track 4 shines the vibrant and lively side of Gigi. A vivacious and energetic tune that is truly entertaining. A not to-be-missed especially for young lads. Track 5 and 6 are equally melodious and sentimental, absolutely pleasant to one’s ear. Gigi’s beautiful renditions really enhance both the ballads.

Tanya Chua, the Singaporean singer-composer pens down Track 7, another rhythmic tune. With a nifty musical arrangement, this is an all-seemingly enjoyable track that can be listened at anywhere, anytime. Gigi Leung herself composed two songs in this album, namely Track 8 and 9. Track 8 tells about the poverty of the children in the rural mountain area, and their hopes and dreams. Her compassionate and generosity has made this her third song (if I’m not wrong) she composed for children enduring hardships in life. While the children’s voice and the oriental musical instrument with its melancholic tune in Track 8 steals my heart, Track 9 offers a solace and comfortable feeling after listening to it. Its mellifluous tune pictures a serenade view of wild flowers in summer time.

The last track, Track 10 is the best gift to the fans. This medley combines 17 of her best hits over the past 10 years, and the result… a lovable and touching tune that can be played over and over again without feeling bored. Check out the lyrics too! Every phrase describes on how she feels about love, depressed and helplessly. To sum it all, this is definitely a great album. She is still SHORTHAIRED, but she is all GROWN UP.

December 14, 2005 Looks good, sounds nice!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Having listened to this album, I can use one word to describe it, i.e. ‘Fashionable’. True indeed as I find that most of the songs revolve around apparels, tailor, model, make-ups etc.

We start off with Track 1, the title track of the album. A mix of hip-hop and rap, with colourful and exuberant lyrics, which I can see that she is venturing into new genres of music. No doubt, a fairly good effort for a captivating song. Track 2 sounds mysterious, gloomy and low. She croons her way through this song effortlessly with a smooth change of vocals between real and falsetto. Track 3 changes the mood completely. This R&B number is funky and up beat with nifty musical arrangement, a song that you just cannot miss. Track 4 oozes out a classical tune, a heart-rending contemporary ballad, sang just perfectly to bring you the right touch.

While you are having a break, drinking a cup of coffee or relaxing, try listening to track 5. Its beautiful and harmonious tune with her ever-loving angelic vocals simply makes you waft into the air. Track 6 provides the same feeling as the previous, but the latter sounded more lavish. Do listen out for some memorable dialogues about fashion towards the end of the song.

Track 7 and track 9 are one of the slow tracks in this album. Both are commercial-like, sentimental and pleasant to the ear. While the former are melodious and sweet, the latter sounds passionate and lovely. Nevertheless, her rendition makes these songs a commendable one. Moving down to track 8, this piece is jazzy and unique. The chorus part is divided into two types, one is pacy and breezy, while the other is more intense and sappy, and it does sounds like a soap opera!! Of all the songs in this album, my credit goes to track 10. Well, it is uplifting, jaunty and simply enjoyable!! It shows that she is not only capable in composing ballads, she grooves too!!!

At last, we have come to the end of the review. All in all, this album provides feel good vibes and definitely worth listening to. She has shown great vocal performance and her effort to improve it. So, music-philes out there, LOOK out for this album the very next time you enter a music gallery…………
