"Just Do It" is a farce about a family willing to do anything (but work) to make money. The father (An Suk Hwan) has failed in business. After drowning his sorrows in alcohol, he is knocked down and injured by a truck. The family has no idea how it will pay the father's hospital bill, until it dawns on the mother that she can recover insurance money for the incident. The family then plots one scheme after another by which they can become injured simply to receive compensation from the insurance company. Unsurprisingly, a claims investigator (Park Sang Myun) soon begins to dog the family, convinced that they are committing a fraud. Not wishing to be deterred from their new 'career', the parents persuade their daughter (Park Jin Hie) to seduce the investigator, then trap him into a marriage. Once that task is accomplished, the family (now including the claims investigator) begins plotting a bigger and better insurance scam, one that entails enticing a distant relative (Lee Bum Soo) to join the family, buying a life insurance contract on him, then ending his life. Unfortunately for them, this bizarrely-coiffed distant family member proves to be a much bigger handful than they ever anticipated. The plot is thin, but the filmmakers wring everything they can out of it in the movie's short 79-minute running length. The movie succeeds thanks to the audacity of the plot, the brisk pacing of the sometimes crude action, and the crazy delight with which the cast brings their twisted characters to life. "Just Do It" is no one's idea of a timeless classic -- and I wouldn't have wanted it to run any longer -- but it made me laugh. |

not all that great
|
for the record, the son takes the ax to try to cut off his DAD's hand. i didn't enjoy this movie that much. it seemed too short, and the jokes weren't very funny. you don't get to know the family at all, so they don't seem very interesting. you just get the feeling that they are a bunch of whiny, greedy people with no value for human life. |

Truly Hilarious!

This insane movie had me laughing non-stop. The lengths this greedy family goes through for cash is truly unbelievable. The scene where the father takes the ax to cut off his son's hand to claim disability is forever ingrained in my psyche! I've been waiting for this movie to come on DVD for a long time! |
