April 20, 2008 ignore the "new age" label Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I have had this album for more than a year now. I almost did not buy it because I kept reading that it was "new age" (I absolutely loathe that gut-less, soul-less genre). I am glad that I eventually ignored my bad vibes: This is a very good album. Granted, it has some of that dreaded new-agish "atmosphere" synthetizer stuff (of the water/wind with reverb kind), but that is not enough to drag down some really new and fresh re-revisiting of old classics. Some tracks are weaker but it does not matter much to me because she tried something different and gets it to work over the whole album. He two other albums ("I Love You" and "Whispers of Tenderness") are worth a try too.

    December 14, 2006 Outstanding Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I agree with the previous reviewers that this is an amazing first album, easily one of the best that I have heard this year. Chang Xuan comes across as an already remarkably polished composer/singer. There is a good mix of songs here, and the singer get excellent support from the band playing behind her. Also, in my opinion the recording engineers did an outstanding job on this record. Chang Xuan feels very close in the room. I like the little things that the recording catches, like the breath intake at the beginning of Track #1, or the “uh?” at the end of Track #4. It contributes to making her feel more present. Track #8, with the interlaced guitars playing around Desert’s words is a bit of an outlier, style-wise, among the other tracks, but I think that it is an excellent piece. Really, I can’t think of a bad thing to say about this album; It is just that great.
