Director Higashi Yoichi's Wandering Home is a fictional adaptation of an autobiography by a traumatized war photographer whose alcoholism destroyed himself and his family. Now, see the story from his long-suffering ex-wife's point of view in Kaasan's Mom's Life, based on the popular autobiographical manga series by Saibara Rieko. This live-action adaptation stars Koizumi Kyoko (Tokyo Sonata) as Saibara, a manga artist struggling to juggle work, her two children, and her alcoholic husband everyday. In a surprise casting move that shocked the Japanese film world, Koizumi's real-life ex-husband Nagase Masatoshi (Funuke Show Some Love You Losers) plays Saibara's self-destructive husband in a performance that earned him the Best Actor award at the Japan Film Critics Award. Director Kobayashi Shotaro and writer Manabe Katsuhiko inject a sense of humor into the story without undermining the subject matter, fluidly shifting between dark comedy and a serious exploration of alcoholism's effect on family.

On a typical day, manga artist Saibara Rieko (Koizumi Kyoko) takes her two children to school, works at home, and visits her husband Yutaka (Nagase Masatoshi) at rehab. A former war photographer who has been truly affected by what he has seen in the war zone, Yutaka is a good family man, a failing writer, and an alcoholic. Despite Rieko's warnings, Yutaka finally drinks himself into the hospital, leading to the two agreeing to divorce. When the children confess to their mother that they miss their father, Rieko agrees to take Yutaka back again when he quits drinking. Will Yutaka finally lives up to his promise, or will he go back to his old ways?

First Press Edition DVD includes interviews, making of, stage events, a special television program by TV Tokyo, and trailers. It also comes with a special Kaasan Mom's Life illustrated booklet and the pocket version of a conversation between Saibara Rieko and Koizumi Kyoko, original printed on the Mainichi Shimbun.
