YesAsia Editorial Description

The breakup of legendary K-pop group Baby Vox has left many fans saddened, but all the members are still in the limelight, each with their own new path to follow. Yoon Eun Hye became a television star with hit MBC drama Palace. Kim Yi Ji appeared in Drama City. Shim Eun Jin started a solo career and played a mute warrior in the historical drama Dae Jo Young. And now Kan Mi Yeon is back with her solo album debut, bringing a Refreshing new air to the current K-pop scene.

Kan Mi Yeon invited all her closest friends to participate in Refreshing. Collectively, they call themselves Yachaepa, or The Vegetable Group! There is corn (K-pop star and sometime actress Park Ji Yoon), potato (famous lyricist Shim Jae Hee), cucumber (Arirang TV MC Lena Hong), garlic (actress and former Arirang TV Pops in Seoul host Soi), sweet potato (singer, actress, and ex-S.E.S. member Eugene), carrot (ex-S.E.S. member Shoo), and finally our green pumpkin, Mi Yeon herself.

The album offers an impressive variety of genres. "Old Woman" mixes Irish instrumentals with Bang Si Hyeok's melody and the lyrics of Yoon Sa Ra (writer of Kim Jong Guk's A Letter and Kim Beom Su's I Miss You). "Is That All?" is a Korean cover of a song by Taiwanese pop star Jolin Tsai, while "White Snow is Falling" covers Malaysian Mando-pop singer Fish Leong's song. From ballads and Brazilian electro-pop to dance and R&B, Kan Mi Yeon's new album is Refreshing indeed.

The China version comes with three Chinese (Mandarin) tracks including: "Woman's Heart", Kiss, and "When Will He Come Again".

The Velvet Bell Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"Refreshing", the first album from Baby Vox's MiYoun is a real treat. MiYoun possesses a very pleasing voice, with a wide range that has a velvety quality in the lower register and a bell-like clarity in her upper range. Hence my nickname for her: The Velvet Bell. (Or should I call her "The Velvet Belle"?)

This astonishingly inexpensive China version of the album features 11 original Korean songs and five extras. The five extras are comprised of three versions of the songs sung in a rather inarticulate putonghua and two versions of ballads onto which dance beats have been grafted. My advice: Stick to the 11 original Korean songs on this album (tracks 4 through 14); they are superb!

The songs include a wide variety of ballad and dance styles. MiYoun's supple voice caresses these beautiful ballads in a way that leaves me wanting more. I also enjoyed the dance numbers, particularly the Motown-flavored track 11. And I love the Brazilian sound on track 14. This is conventional, mainstream pop music; MiYoun isn't breaking new stylistic ground here. But it is uniformly tuneful, intelligent, and very, very enjoyable.

I recommend "Refreshing" very highly and look forward to much more refreshing music from MiYoun in the future.

AMAZING!!!!!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
She was my favorte Baby Vox member and thought she
had the best voice. I was sad BV broke up, but was
hoping MiYoun would make a solo CD.
As mentioned above this is not a dance or hip-slop
CD that sadly other solo kpopers fell into.
She did what I loved about her most, beautiful songs.
This CD is absolutely amazing. I hope it is a big success, and she does many more.

A winner Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I heard this CD at a friend's house and was totally
impressed with the quality, arrangements and songs.
If you like fast and driving rhythms, this CD is not
for you but if you like ballads you will certainly be
pleased. Mi Yeon's voice in the majority of the songs has a very mature sound. It is delicate and pleasing. She also demonstrates a very good range. Curiously though, she also can turn on a very different sounding voice. Something like a teen's voice. If this is any indication of things to come, I anxiously wait for more. Buy the CD. You will not be disappointed.

suprisingly good Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
i've been a baby vox fan for years..since their third album...and when they broke up..i was sad..i wasn't shocked considering the events that led up to it..but just like other fans...i only bought the album..just because she was a member of Baby vox

like the reviewers before..i was very happy that she decided to stick with ballads and pop genres that baby vox was so famous for..she didn't try to step into new genres just to distance her self from the groups image..

when i first listened to her album..i have to admit that i missed baby vox..but whats suprising..is that kan miyeon's voice sounds kind of different..in a good way..in her album she does the song "go" which was one of baby vox's songs from the 5.5 album..not only can she carry the song by herself very well...her voice sounds more mature..when she was in baby vox her voice had a.."teeny bopper"..high pitched sound that many kpop singers have..now..its more..well rounded..she can hit the low notes and high notes and still sound beautiful

although miyeon is great ballad singer..the album kind of sounds repetative..and some songs just sound like they were put there so the album can have more tracks..but makes up for it when some grab you and sort of make you listen..also..park ji yoon, eugene and sea (from former group S.E.S) and more make appeareances on the album..which is a nice touch..

over all miyeon did a good job..and if she does a next album..i'll pick it up..only this time..its becuse of her..and not because of baby vox
