Kan Mi Yeon Vol. 1 - Refreshing

The breakup of legendary K-pop group Baby Vox has left many fans saddened, but all the members are still in the limelight, each with their own new path to follow. Yoon Eun Hye became a television star with hit MBC drama Palace. Kim Yi Ji appeared in Drama City. Shim Eun Jin started a solo career and played a mute warrior in the historical drama Dae Jo Young. And now Kan Mi Yeon is back with her solo album debut, bringing a Refreshing new air to the current K-pop scene.

Kan Mi Yeon invited all her closest friends to participate in Refreshing. Collectively, they call themselves Yachaepa, or The Vegetable Group! There is corn (K-pop star and sometime actress Park Ji Yoon), potato (famous lyricist Shim Jae Hee), cucumber (Arirang TV MC Lena Hong), garlic (actress and former Arirang TV Pops in Seoul host Soi), sweet potato (singer, actress, and ex-S.E.S. member Eugene), carrot (ex-S.E.S. member Shoo), and finally our green pumpkin, Mi Yeon herself.

The album offers an impressive variety of genres. "Old Woman" (Track 12) mixes Irish instrumentals with Bang Si Hyeok's melody and the lyrics of Yoon Sa Ra (writer of Kim Jong Guk's A Letter and Kim Beom Su's I Miss You). "Is That All?" (Track 10) is a Korean cover of a song by Taiwanese pop star Jolin Tsai, while White Snow is Falling covers Malaysian Mando-pop singer Fish Leong's song. From ballads and Brazilian electro-pop to dance and R&B, Kan Mi Yeon's new album is Refreshing indeed.

이번 미연의 솔로 데뷔 앨범은 “refreshing”이라는 타이틀로 “새롭고 신나는”이란 컨셉으로 제작. 홀로서기를 시작하는 미연 스스로에게 힘이 되는 문구로 정했다. 이번 미연의 솔로 데뷔앨범 타이틀 곡인 ‘옛날여자’는 히트작곡가 방시혁이 작곡을 맡았으며, 김종국의 ‘편지’, 김범수의 '보고싶다'를 작사한 윤사라가 작사를 맡아 이들의 환상적인 만남이 올 하반기를 접수할 최고의 발라드로 기대를 모으고 있다. 아일랜드 민요 ‘O, waly waly’ 멜로디 일부를 인용하여 도입부의 서정적인 팬플룻 소리와 조화를 이룬 이번 타이틀곡 '옛날 여자'는 슬픈 멜로디와 함께 미연의 감성적인 보이스가 곡의 느낌을 더욱 살렸다.

'그게다야?' 라는 곡은 중국에서 최고의 인기를 누린 대만가수 ‘채의림’이라는 가수가 부른 “애정삼십육계”란 곡을 리메이크 하였다. 이외에도 중국 곡 양정여 ”애니부시양심천”이라는 발라드 곡을 '하얀 눈이 내리면'으로 리메이크 하여 미연이가 직접 가사를 썼으며, 태국 팬들이 직접 추천해준 '그 사람을 찾아주세요'도 미연이가 직접 작사를 하여 새로운 느낌의 곡으로 재 탄생시켰다. 미연은 중국, 대만, 태국 등에서 여전히 자신을 기억해주고, 기다려준 현지 많은 팬들을 위해 특별히 이번 앨범에 수록한 곡으로서 벌써부터 해외활동을 위한 준비를 열심히 하고 있다.

이외에 “야채파”가 참여한 '그 앤 너에게 반하지 않았어'라는 곡과 노홍철이 피처링한 'KISS'라는 디스코 비트의 곡, 베이비복스의 스페셜 앨범에 수록되 많은 팬들에게 사랑을 받았던 'GO'가 리메이크 되어 이번 앨범에 수록되는 등 총 12곡의 다양한 장르의 곡이 수록되어 있다.
