Kanojo (First Press Edition)(Japan Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

Aiko is back with her latest full-length album. The female singer from Osaka debuted on the J-pop scene in 1997 with Ashita ("Tomorrow"). After close to 2 dozen singles and 6 major CDs, it's time for her 7th album Kanojo ("She"). It features 14 tracks including the theme songs "Kira Kira" (Track 3) for the Fuji TV series drama "Ganbatte Ikimasshoi" ("Double Your Efforts") and "Star" (Track 10) from the new big screen anime Arashi no Yoru ni. Another recommended song on this release is Aiko's CM song "Hitomi" ("Pupil"/Track 14) for housekeeping brand Kao.

An artist unto herself... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I confess that I generally prefer singers who sing in one consistant genre (either all rock, all pop...all whatever) that suits them best and that they tend to maintain over time. Aiko is the exception to that preference, because I think her mix of styles and genres actually creates a unique "Aiko style" of it's own. She also chooses styles and genres that are blendable rather than ones that sound randomly thrown together just for the sake of having variety on a CD.

And so, this release is no huge departure from those Aiko CDs that have come before it. The sweet but talented vocals shine on each song, and there is a bit of influence from almost all over the musical spectrum. Latin-influenced tracks, lounge-influenced tracks, big band-influenced tracks, retro-influenced tracks, easy listening-influenced tracks, jazz-influenced tracks, and of course...pop/rock-influenced tracks.

Somehow...this release still flows and has a charm all it's own. I do admit my favorite songs are all in the pop/rock vein (just my personal taste) and those would be tracks 3, 4, 7, 13 and 14. Track 4 is my stand-out favorite almost rock-ish track and track 14 is my stand-out favorite pop ballad.

A gorgeous CD from an artist who is truly a unique sensation of her own creation. With Aiko, I think it's pretty safe to be a buyer if you are a fan of her music, because she's almost always reliable in her production and quality of material. One knows what to expect from her, and she doesn't dissapoint.
